Okay,

So I'm a certified Sig-a-holic. But I think I've got every kind of Sig that tickles my fancy.

225's? Yep 2 of em.

229? Couple of them, though considering selling the one with the factory trigger job....that still leaves me two. One issue, one mine.

228? Two of 'em. Oddly enough I rarely shoot them, though I do plan to wring 'em out soon. Need better mags.

226? Had a couple both got sent back. I still may get one, but I'm a little soured on them at the minute.

220? Had one, sold it, regret it, but with as often as I shoot, .45 starts to get expensive.

239? Had one in 9mm, didn't care for it. I may get one in .40 just to test the waters, but for an 8 shot 9mm, get a 225.

245? Read the 220 post.

Sig Pro? had 2 of the 2340's. Heard Sig was coming out with the new ones, so I dumped mine and eagerly await the arrival of the new ones.

So short story long, I decided I wanted to try some S&W autos. Specifically the 4043 DAO with alloy frame. I trot my happy butt up to the range, rent one and put a little over 60 rounds through it. My group looked like a shotgun pattern. I could only make an accurate shot by REALLY concentrating on the trigger pull. The best group I got was about 2 1/2 inches at 21 feet....but that took a LOT of concentration and time. Cured me of wanting that; plus it jammed on one of the shots, FTF.

So then there are the S&W 9mm 5906.....could they make this gun any heavier? Really, I think the U.S. Navy could use one of these to anchor aircraft carriers.

So I sit there and the guy recommends a Ruger P90, I object telling him I had a bad experience with a P97 and ammo is expensive blah, blah. So he GIVES me the ammo for free to try it out. So I trot out there to get it over with....and you know what? It shot great. I though it was a fluke so I tried a P94 .40 cal. It shot great. I grouped it about as well as a 229 at 21 feet.

Suddenly I became light headed, my world turned upside down. Cat's were walking alongside dogs, Democrats and Republicans were united in song and I found myself actually wanting a RUGER of all things. Now the P90 was way to big and the P94 was thick as J'Lo's gluteous maximus. So I looked at a 345. It's so thin, so light. Someone help me. Have I lost my mind?

Sorry you had bad 226 experiences - mine is still flavor of the month, as well as 16/7 carry!

But the Ruger - well you ain't the first to get a surprise with a P series. Butt fugly - I still find that - but for me my 95 and 97 DC's have been bullet proof!! I did carry the 95 for some while (wonder why anyone would guess that!) ... and actually still would if not quite so ''chunky''.

In their price range they are still and will I think remain, a very viable alternative to some other platforms - certainly for folks on a tighter budget.

If you want to stick with 9MM, have you tried a BHP or CZ? What's been wrong with the Sigs? They seem fine to me.

Had CZ's. I love CZ's. Not crazy on the PCR or the P01 since shooting a 228, but the full size CZ is SWEET. It's also about 35 oz. Which is too heavy to carry. I always justify buying a gun by carrying it either on or off duty. Otherwise, it's just a plinker.

As for the BHP? I have large hands, it has a short tang and short trigger. The BHP and I do not get along. ;)

In a new gun, I think the Ruger are still the best bang for the buck. The P-95 is my favorite but I have never seen a Ruger jam so I think any of them would work. They are big, heavy and are not target guns but in rapid fire, I found that they shoot as well as ANY gun I have ever shot. In slow fire, they are nothing special but in combat type fire, they shoot just as well as the SIGs, Brownings, Berettas and anything else you can name.

For an economy self defense gun where pin point accuracy and compactness is not needed, I think they are as good as any gun at any price.

They are as good as any gun in that price, but man are they ugly. As another Sigaholic I know there are other things out there that shoot well, but I still have this weird requirement to think a gun LOOKS good too. Been spoiled in the world of 1911s and Sigs. The Rugers sure are ugly, but if you want a reliable shooter, you could do worse.

And it's OK to stray from the Sig flock, it's allowed now and then
