Yep, I am looking at a Sig Sauer Mosquito and a Walther P22. I will end up with one of them but am having a difficult time deciding which to buy.
Either fills the bill perfectly.
I have not fired either but have handled them both. They are priced about the same. Both have good reviews.
Any help would be much appreciated.

By the way I am not interested in any other models but those two.

I've never handled the Walther, but I used to have a Mosquito. I really liked the feel, but I didn't like the sights. They could have done better. The rear sight was pretty cheesy, it actually wigged. I did like the fact that it came with 2 recoil springs, one low and one high velocity. Extra mags are no problem as well.

I have a Beretta 87 now that I really like.

+1 on rcmodel's comments. (Check out the RimfireCentral Forum for detailed notes on the issues experienced with both guns.) You'd be far better off looking at just about any Ruger on the market.

I haven't shot the Sig, but my P22 is one of the most comfortable and fun guns that I own. I've had jams and stuff, and it's certainly nowhere near Ruger quality or reliability, but I don't think you'll regret it if you buy one. The light weight and looks of them just adds to their appeal.

If you decide bon the P22, look at the barrel code stamped on the breech end. You want an AG or later (i.e. AG, AH, AI).

For that pistol I recommend CCI mini-mag ammo, or similar high velocity ammo.

I have a P22, but prefer a different brand I also own.

I think between those 2 it will depend on which one feels the best in your hand. You will hear horror stories about both. You can also find people that have owned both and like them such as myself. I must be lucky because both of mine have been good guns and have not had any of the issues people will keep bringing up.

Both guns have die-cast zinc slides, and both guns have had problems.
Absolutely. Those are the LAST two 22LR semiauto pistols that I'd be lookin' to buy.

I would much mo' highly recommend the Browning Buckmark.

Many rounds through my recent production Sig Mosquito with NO problems. Follow the Sig recommendation to shoot CCI MiniMags for the first 1500 rounds or so and it's a great little plinking gun. I've had only one FTF on a defective round that I didn't catch before I put it in the magazine. I wasn't looking for a target .22LR - I was looking for something similar in size and feel to my other semi-autos that I could shoot on the cheap. The Mosquito fills that bill just fine.

Mosquito's on the top:

why would anyone choose a model that has the reputation for unreliable and non-dependable service , especially when there are many others with great records....

Thumbs down to both of your choices. The mosquito has one of the worst reps of any big name 22 out there.

the p22 is the only firearm i have ever sold. I bought it new, it had slide wear very quickly, FTE, FTF, you name it and it did it. I really wanted to like it. I did all the extra F&B stuff from rimfirecentral and put about 1500 rounds thru it before packing it away and getting a Ruger instead (no looking back). I traded the p22 for a KT pf9 last Christmas day!

The Mosquito looks better than it shoots. Pure junk and unreliable.
Please heed warning. I sold mine as quickly as I bought it. I had a cap gun in the 50's that had a better trigger action. You would be better off buying a high tech water gun or paint ball gun.
