Sig Saur Mosquito Review

I purchased the chrome/ nickel model off of Buds this past August. After reading all of the mixed reviews online I couldn't decide between this and the Walther P22. After handling both at my LGS I decided on this Sig because it didn't feel like a toy in my hands. This gun feels like a "real" firearm meant to shoot a "real" caliber, instead it shoots super cheap .22's all day long, and looks sexy while doing it, and I'm perfectly okay with that! One of my buddies is a .22 fanatic who owns a black Mosquito and a P22 among many others. We both agree that this chrome two-tone model is by far the better finish, both for longevity and attractiveness. From what I can tell, the general consensus is that the Walther is the more accurate of the two. I may just be biased but I was shooting much better with the Mosquito and so were all of those who compared them at the local range. I personally think the better accuracy is due, in part to the better grip the average sized hand can get on the Mosquito over the P22. My pinky wasn't hanging off the P22 but it definitely wasn't where it would normally be on a tactical, full sized firearm. On the other hand I can comfortably shoot the Mosquito which has a grip not unlike the P229. My fiance, who isn't very interested in firearms (she won't even shoot the Kahr CM9 I recently purchased for her to carry because it's "too loud and kicks to hard"????), absolutely loves shooting the Sig Mosquito. In terms of reliability, either the luck of my Irish ancestors was finally on my side and I got a good one, or everyone on the Internet is crazy (slightly more likely). I've put one thousand MiniMags, 550 Federal Bulk Pack rounds, and about 250 Remington Golden Bullet Bulk pack rounds through it without any issues.......just kidding! But seriously the stovepipes(12), failure to feed's(7), and failure to fire's(20 or so but usually attributed to .22 quality control issues) are few and far between with how many rounds I've put through it and on the plus side, there are increasingly fewer if any issues every time I take it to the range (about weekly). Learn how to hold a firearm correctly (very tight) and clean it frequently (every 200-300 rounds) and you won't have any problems. Cheers!

i bought one of those same guns, finish and all, it shot and functioned great, so i figured i beat the odds, i put it up for about 4 months, got it out to do some shooting and couldn't get more than 5 rounds without a jam. seemed like the recoil spring had lost its spring. they had all kinds of spring problems on the 238 too, i traded it in and won't buy any more sigs

The "Sig" Mosquito is not a Sig. Don't let that disuade you from buying real Sigs.

Mine came with 2 springs as I think most did. Which spring did you leave in your pistol? I switched to the lighter spring the first day I got it and haven't changed them out since. Now you have me nervous lol.

The springs are also directional, that is they must be inserted as shown in the manual. reversing the spring can also cause ftf and fte malfunctions

Sig's Mosquito is an OK pistol. I recently just sold mine due to the fact that is was picky about what ammo it liked. I usally had to run cci's through it to function just fine. After a break in of 500 rounds or so it started functioning fine with Federal bulk ammo. It didnt like any others, Just CCI and Federal. At the 2000 round mark it started to act up with federal bulk. FtF, FTE Like the above post said.. It sat a month or two then all of a sudden it wouldnt shoot the federal bulk with a jam every 4-5 shots if I was lucky.
SO it became a cci only pistol. And well the point of having the 22lr pistol was to be able to shoot a lot for cheap. Now that I reload, I can shoot 9mm ammo that is slighly cheaper than the premium 22lr loads.
I will give it to the Mosquito, Its a very accurate pistol. But with trouble like that I simply got tired of it and let it go to someone interested.
SO,now I no longer have the pistol and have moved on.
I do want another 22 pistol and i have been eyeballing Ruger's single six or the Single Ten. Heard great things about them, feels nice in my hand I just havent picked up one yet.

I wish I would've waited because I've heard and seen nothing but excellent reviews so far. Oh well I guess I'll just have to go through the pain of not ever giving my mosquito a rest haha!

It comes in a Sig box its got Sig wrote on it . Face it ,it's a Sig. It may act like a Jennings but its a Sig.
