Can anyone who owns a Sig 220-ST comment on the felt recoil in comparison to the P220 standard? I am looking to upgrade my HD gun from a S&W 4013 to a stainless .45. I have a P220, but my wife complains about the recoil with the 220. I am considering a S&W 4563, HK USP and the 220-ST. I have a SA Mil Spec that she shoots without complaining about the recoil, so I am hoping the 220-ST is a little softer shooter.

The 220ST compared to my Kimber is a soft shooter. I dont notice much of a difference when shooting the standard 220 to the 220ST.

Problem with recoil is that is subjective.

i shot 45R's 220ST when he shot my 220 and i couldn't tell much difference either...this was with 230gr slugs. i thought my 220 was actually easier to shoot quickly and more accurately, but i should mention:
1. i have alot more trigger time with my 220
2. i seemed to notice the heavier slide's movement more
3. my 220 has had it's trigger tuned

sabre452,

In my opinion, felt recoil is softer with the 220ST as compared to my two-tone 220 and my 1911s. However, again that may just be subjective.

I am also in Bham, AL. Where do you shoot? If you would like we could meet up and you could shoot my 220ST to see what your thoughts are.

It feels quite a bit softer to me. Not as much muzzle fip, though there isn't much with a 220 to begin with. The ST also seems more solid in the hand. The recoil doesn't seem to upset my grip on the gun at all, kind of like it's been glued to my palm.

WJR,
I have been shooting at the FOP public range in Pleasant Grove and I made a run through the Alabama Pistol Range and Training Institute but I haven't been back. I was a member at Excalibur and had just renewed when they closed, so I have been hesitant to pay any more yearly membership dues. I have a customer that shoots at Steel City, but he and I haven't had a chance to go together. I really like shooting the 220, and I would like to purge the 40S&W from the group, but it is our HD gun and I need something similar to replace it. I looked at a 220ST at the Gun Cellar and thought the extra weight might soften the recoil. The 220 is also a little bulky for my wifes hand, so the 220ST won't help with that. I haven't been able to find a 4563 or 4566 in town to look at. Any experience with the HK USP?

sabre452,

I used to shoot at Excalibur as well. Although, I never had a membership. I have shot at FOP, but lately have been going to ATI since it is indoors and all of my shooting has been at night after work.

I have zero experience with the 4563, 4566, and HK. I may be wrong, but I thought the HK grip was even bulkier than the Sig.

That P220ST is a gem; it is a very soft shooter compared to many of the .45 ACPs, even the alloy-framed P220. I've always been of the opinion that recoil is something you just get used to through plenty of practice at the range.
