As some of you know , several years back , Sig changed the slide production to machined stainless from the stamped steel with pinned breech block . Any of you with 9mm P226's have any comments/preferences between stamped or stainless ?

I've owned and shot many Sigs over the last 20 yrs and never had any trouble with the stamped slides . Over the last year , the used gun market has been flooded with some great deals on the Factory Certified pistols from Sig . I'm thinking of picking up a couple P226 9mm's and wondering if I should look for stainless or the older stamped models ? Or , maybe it just doesn't matter . The only downside that I've experienced is that the stamped steel guns seemed to be a rust magnet .

Thanks for your info .

Guy - I must confess I was not thinking of slide production techniques when I got my ST - other than trying (as a sweat bucket) to make sure I got a relatively corrosion free carry gun - albeit at a price!!

For me, anything that is essentially ''blued'' is bad news for carry - I can corrode ordinary steel just by looking at it - if it lacks a protective wipe. :D

Thanks Chris . Great photo by the way .

Yeh , corrosion is a definate factor . If I end up with the stainless slide model , it will be the blackened finish . Don't know why , I just prefer it ? :)

If you can run to SS I would - even if pricey. That will pretty much guarantee superb longevity.

As for blacked vs bright - well, at my age I claim the right to have something ''flashy'' LOL . :D

Whatever you decide - the SIG smile will prevail! :)

if you carry, I'd go with SS, since stamped slide in blue does rust fast. Here's a photo of my stamped blued slide. You'll note the difference in internal extractor, and also different milling look. It is slightly lighter than milled SS slide, and personally I believe it gives better balance since that's how P226 was designed on. Also I believe all the new SS Sig are marked made in USA since the slide is US made (frame still German made)
