I have moved from SA to SIG. The P226 is an amazingly accurate weapon. Problem, the decocking lever is on the left side of gun and cannot utilize from the left hand. Anyone everheard of an ambedextrous or left hand version being made? I have looked everywhere. I have shot the P226 x5 Tactical and is doable but a SIG with a safety versus the de cock lever is not my first choice.

Loosen your grip of the gun and use your index finger (just like all the other lefties). Decocking and magazine releases are easily done with the left handed shooters index finger after a small amount of practice and over time will be second nature.

Also of note, the magazine release on the 226 is reversible. Takes about 2 min if you know how to do it.

Re-wiring your brain and hand to do mag releases from the right is more trouble than it's worth though.

YMMV.

The one thing the SIG isn't, is lefty friendly. IMO, since I do train shooting off side, this is a deal breaker :( YMMV :scrutiny:

I'm not sure that the decocker being right-handed should be a big deal. The SIG decocker is a decocker only, it does not act as a safety. You only decock it before you holster the gun, it doesn't seem to me that it would be a big deal to do this either with the index finger or even two handed. When you need the gun, you just draw and fire. Many guns with right-handed safeties would be a problem, but it always seemed to me that the way the SIG works is fairly lefty friendly (esp. with the mag release being reversable as already noted).

Lefty here and I do not own a Sig but have enjoyed those I have shot. I used my index finger for the decock and in the class I took you had to decock and move after every two to three rounds. Got used to it real quick.
I have always dropped my mags with my index finger so I don't think I would want to re-learn that.

The one control that is a bit of a challenge for the left hand on SIGs is the slide stop. It is next to impossible to use as a slide release, but you can always jack the slide manually for a slide-lock reload. For locking the slide back for field stripping, to "show clear" or other purposes (these don't have to be done quickly), you could probably switch hands or devise some other method.

When I used a P220 in the 90's as a duty pistol, I had no trouble using my trigger finger to decock. In 2004, I returned to using a SIG duty pistol, and love the DAK trigger. As for releasing magazines, I love the lefty mag releases that most autoloaders have had since the push-button release was invented. I am serious; it is EASIER and quicker to release a magazine if the button is accessible to the trigger finger. Having to do it with the thumb is clumsy, requiring most people to shift their firing grip.

One of my silly drills at the range is picking up the Sig from the counter, firing, decocking, putting the gun down and repeating. I'm a lefty. After about the first 20 rounds, decocking with the trigger finger became natural.

I've never thought it was a problem when shooting left handed with my Sig. A little awkward, but everything is with my left hand. I've cleared double feeds (purposefully induced for training) left handed only. Decocking is a non-issue using the left index.
