Sig P226 Question

What's the difference, mechanically, between the P226 in .40 and the P226 in .357 Sig? Is it just the barrel, the barrel and recoil spring, or what?

Basically, if I had one in .40, could I switch it out to .357 sig with a simple parts swap?

Dont quote me on this but yeah I think its just the barrel and the mag that need to be changed. I think you can also go down to a 9mm if you want but cant go up to .40 or .357 if your at a 9mm.

I think some of the guns come with both barrels, you can get "drop in" 357sig barrels straight from Sig. Bar-sto also makes a 9mm drop in for the .40/.357sig platform. As far as the mags, the .40 mags fit the .357, no need to change them. I believe they are the same exact.

The magazines and recoil springs are the same, by part number. The implication is that it is just a barrel swap.

Barrel only. My 229 mags say .40/.357 on them; I'm guessing the 226 mags say the same.

Just buy a .357 conversion barrel for your pistol and that is all that is needed. The magazines and recoil springs are the same for both calibers.

Yes, the .40S&W and .357sig pistols are identical except for the barrels. Without the barrels, you would not be able to tell which from which because the caliber is only marked on the barrel. If you want to swap, all you need is a different barrel.

budsgunshop.com used gun listing has a sig and it comes with both the .357 sig and .40 barrel...their price is in excess of $600. Seems like quite a bit of money, but it is a Sig, I guess....

All you need is the barrel.

Usually the P226 in .357 comes with a #8 front sight and the .40 comes with a #6 front sight. Without a ransom rest you probably won't notice the difference.

P226 .40s&w and .357sig

I have had a P226 sig for about 4 years now I purchased it from CDNN it was only available at the time in 9mm and .357sig. I got the .357sig, and purchased a sig barrel in .40s&w for around $169, just like having 2 guns. I prefer the .40 to the .357 mainly on cost of the ammo. However when it is time to show off I love the .357sig... 12 rounds 1.5" group @ 15 yards vs 3" group with the .40. I have shot at least 3000 rounds of the .40 and 500 of the .357 through this pistol without a single malfunction of any type, ever! I would recommend that you buy one with the tritium night sights, buy it asap.
Only difference is the barrel, magazines are the same, recoil spring is the same. Different story for the Sig P239 compact magazines are not the same, however you can use .357sig in the .40 magazine but not the .40 in the .357 mag.
