These are going to be hitting the shores shorty. They are turn ins from the Zurich police. PW Arms the ones who brought you the P6 pistols has done it again!!!!!!!!

Rella you seem to be pretty knowledgeable about the awesomeness that is Sig. I'm looking to purchase another P220, side mag release. What should I pay for a well used one and what's the best place to find them? The pawn shop close to me has a P220, bottom mag release which I don't like and they're asking 400. It's beat up pretty well. What would be a fair price to buy it for and give it some TLC? What about a P6?

$500 to $550 if you are patient will net you a nice W. German P220. I am an advocate of W. German Sigs. This is especially true for the P220. My stalkers will flock to this and tell you I am wrong but I would only own a W. German P220 with a carbon slide or a NIB P220 with the new external extractor.

That is the range for a gun in good condition. Here is a pic of the last P220 I picked up.

Work of art. looks exactly like mine in the other thread, but with less wear than mine. I'm still wondering if mine is one of the W. German variants. It has a 1998 score mark (Kh I believe), the old style grips and a g239 number. It says Made in W. Germany on one side and EXETER. NH on the other. From what I hearing it seems like it's some kind of hybrid or something.

Rellascout - I'm having trouble finding a link to PW Arms, can you help?
thanks

They are the importer. They are not the direct seller.

Top Gun supply and Dan Ammo will have them. I believe Top gun is getting them on Monday. My inside source tells me. I assume it will take a few days for them to grade them and set the price. LOL :)

Hard to say. My guess is that it is a German gun. Normally if they have the proof marks they are German guns. The US guns do not require them.

Wow, couldn't have predicted this one. I've wanted the P228 for a while, for its higher capacity over the P6, so I just settled for the P6 instead of spending $800 on the P228. And now these are the newest thing to hit the shores. I'm excited.

Just Curious.

Why do some folks like the P228 over the P229?

I have a W. German P228 that I bought new years ago, and have barely shot it and is like new, but was just wondering. I thought the P229 slide was made of stronger steel for the .40? But yet the P228 seems to still have a lot of appeal for some folks. Is it better balanced, or something?

Thanks.

The P229 is not identical to the P228. If you are used to a P228 the P229 is somewhat nose heavy IMHO.

The P228 has a stamped carbon steel slide while the P229 has a milled stainless slide. The P229 is not necessarily stronger than the the P228. The blocks of steel that Sig uses for the P229 are cast and then milled into the proper shape. The stamped slide is of the P228 which is only available in 9mm will out live most shooters. The .357 Sig and 40 S&W have higher pressure and Sig in the US wanted a gun they could manufacture here and would handle the 3 calibers. It was cheaper to mill the slides. It was all about cost not about strength. They could have changed the stamping process to accommodate the 40 & .357 Sig but the cost was too high and to be honest I do not believe that the German Sig Sauer wanted to invest in the retooling. 9mm dominates the European market.

The grip dimension of the P229 in 9mm is also slightly different IIRC.

The main thing is balance and feel in the hand. The other major factor is that the P229 is made here in the US by the people in Exeter the majority of P228s were made in Germany.

German guns = better guns IMHO.

Most of it boils down to preference.

How do we order a P228?

PM me. I can give you some more details. There will be a frenzy right out of the gate but I have an in that can get you one. :)

They have just hit the shores and I believe the first retail outlet will be Top Gun Supply. They will be getting guns next week. It will take them a few days to sort through them grade them and get them ready to ship out.

Bump. Haven't seen anything so far. Probably still grading them. Haven't heard back from anyone either. Anyone got any current info about this shipment?

Speaking of, anyone want to estimate a price range? I'd figured something like $150 to $250 more than the P6's, putting them around the $500 range. I hope this is an overestimate.

I would think they would be in the $550 range. I think Tom at Top Gun said they would be around that, BUT DONT QUOTE ME ON THAT !!

I would love another 228 for my collection.... :D

For $550 I'm going to have to pass, bummer.

If they were up to $450 I'd grab one, just to have, but I'm moving away from DA/SA in defensive guns I can't really justify the expense of just another range pistol. (Heck, not sure I could justify $450, but that just would seem like too good of a deal to pass up at that price...)

$440 for fair condition.

$470 for good condition.

$500 for very good condition.

Seems like the difference is mainly in the finish.

The "very good" condition ones are all sold out already. It seems that many folks placed their order earlier today.

Good and VG are gone. Only fair remaining. Got my order for a VG condition p228 just under the wire last night. Literally... I placed the order, got confirmation, refreshed the browser and they were out of stock...

I'll post pictures when it arrives.

I purchased the "fair" condition one that arrived today.

In terms of wear, the top of the slide has some scuff marks, and underneath the trigger guard there is some wear. Otherwise, the finish is in pretty good condition - much better than I expected. The grips are rubber with no "P228" marking on them, unlike the plastic grips. Came with two mags which seemed to be in pretty good condition with strong springs.

I'll get some pictures when I get the chance to take some.
