Three of these are available two hours (drive) from us. The ad is on Gunbroker under "P6", "Firearms", listed by Robertson Trading.

I have two other nice all-matching Sigs (one is a true collector P228), but know nothing about 229T barrels, cut down by their so-called "engineers" to go into a P6, which was used by the German Polizei for laser training devices (in the long, very detailed ads...).
I'm only aware of what is in the Gunbroker ads.

**My question**: should these three Frankenguns be reliable enough to function as Plinker guns at the range? How would a novice determine that these "cut down" barrels could operate?
I'm not talking about collector value, which they don't have, only estimated function for practice.

Only considering for trading, as I Don't have the cash for a pure cash deal. Otherwise I would bid for a pure P6.

Uhhhhh...these scare me a bit.
For one thing, the example they show in their ad has been whacked on the hammer hard enough to close the "hook" on the end. The hook hammer is a safety feature designed to indicate if the gun is ever dropped hard enough to damage the sear mating surfaces- if so the hammer and sear should be replaced!

Secondly, the guide rod on the ad gun is too short. It should be flush with the end of the slide. This could result in over compression of the recoil spring and coil bind. Not good.

Then they say they have replaced the breech blocks. Factory P6\225 breech blocks are virtually unobtanium, so I'd be concerned they had some fabricated- cast perhaps? I would want to know what these are made of and by whom. The roll pins securing the breech blocks need to be OEM quality as well and properly installed.....

Lastly, if they did any sort of grinding on the barrel lug, I'd be worried that they have gone too deep, removing the heat-treated layer and leaving soft material on the bearing surfaces, which could result in shortened barrel life, or, worst case, lug separation.

I say run. Run far and fast. Save up and get a factory complete gun- they are fantastic pistols.

Thanks very much.
Will stick with my two CZ Compacts, .40 caliber P229 and 'new' 1994 (date code "EK"?) all-matching P228.

Time to be patient with the self-discipline to save the cash. Maybe a 100% original P6 with a very worn finish (discounted) will be spotted here for a personal inspection in a few months.

Try Armslist- they pop up locally pretty regularly in the $400-500 range, and the sellers will sometimes take trades. Good luck!

I ran away! Thanks for so much advice.

Armslist has one in Knoxville, but Memphis is so Far away that nobody wants to drive 3 & 1/2 hours to Nashville just to meet halfway, even though I would be willing to.
I have driven over two hours Three different times for Armslist deals.

**A guy an hour away, from whom I've already bought or traded, has a really nice (better than I need) '98 P225, all-matching with the 'eagle' Nitro proof, symbol for Kiel Germany and two letter code for 1998. Slide states
"Made in Germany", and assembled in Germany, as verified by the proofmarks and matching #s.

A bit over $500, and is a very good value based on feedback from a guy at Sig Talk.
Just a quality gun is always the wish.
