Marcus,

Great detail and explanation, thanks for that.

In your opinion, what is the best grip position using the slingshot method? Simply placing your hand over the top of the weapon and pulling back? Pointing the weapon downward and doing the same?

thanks

-Joe

Muzzle pointed downrange or in a safe direction; I don't pull back on the slide - I grip the back of the slide, push forward on the grip (into my firing position), and release the slide.

With the pistol pointed forward and twisted sideways(slide parallel to ground and knuckles pointed up), grip the slide with your off-hand, then push forward with your primary-hand and pull back with your off-hand and release after you meet the resistance of the slide being pulled fully to the rear. It is more reliable to have the slide-hand and the grip-hand engaging in opposing motion rather than putting too much of the action into one hand.

I like to use keep my pistol close to my body, so I prefer to reverse my off-hand grip on the slide, push with the primary-hand, and pull with the off-hand. My off-hand thumb points towards my chest and after I release the slide my fist thumps against my chest. I find that this is a more reliable grip on the slide and gives you better weapon retention. In addition, you can curl your fingers around the slide with greater surface covering giving you a more sure grip. Than using the classic method where only your thumb and forefingers are gripping the slide.

Thanks for the reply.

I was just curious if you have the gun held in an aiming or semi-aiming position, or more towards the ground.

Maybe I'm thinking too much lol.

I'm right handed. During a reload I typically hold the pistol in front of my neck and chin area with the controls facing me so that my pistol and my target are in my field of view. The muzzle is pointed to my 11 O'clock position and if you look at me from above the muzzle will be pointed around the 10-11 O'clock position. Once I've slapped in a new magazine, I lower the pistol from this position so that the pistol is approximately around the nipple-line and I cycle the action with the muzzle pointed at the 9-O'clock position while maintaining the above position at the 10-11 O'clock

There will be some variations depending on body armor, your arm length, and height. Go with a variation that is the easiest for you to perform without getting the muzzle too close to your body.

Agree with the above statement.. lol

Love all 3 of my P229's 9mm & 40cal, and as mentioned, straight down, muscles memory, and most important, cleaned and "lubed" helps it a lot.

Also, Sig's framed mounted decocker-only are a big plus, as they allow one to decock without loss of a proper 2-hand grip..

Get the Sig, as they replaced my Beretta Px4 40, because they shoot way softer, are far more balanced for quicker follow-up shots with more accuracy and that's why I own 3 of them.

I'd get used to racking the slide manually for reloads. The slide lock is better used for cleaning and such and not as a slide release. Marcus has explained this much better than I can.

i know this is way late but to be totally honest with you the first problem solving idea i got when i heard this was is it a factory mag or is it a off brand after market mag sometimes their designs are perfect and will catch
