I'm not sure what to get for my primary pistol; a sig stainless p229 9mm, or a Dan Wesson RZ-45 heritage .45 acp. What do you think?

I'd go with the P229, but in 357SIG or .40 (better yet, both, with the extra barrel) over 9mm. Personally, I'd skip the SS too, the standard guns are lighter.

Here's what most people forget, the heaviness of the Sig reduces felt recoil. Get the Sig P229 it was purpose built for the 40.

I have both (even have both barrels for the P229), prefer the DW.

For me, SIGs have a very high bore axis while DW (M1911s) shoot where you point. Also, the trigger is MUCH better on the DW. While I like my P229, I do not like the long DA trigger pull.

Doesn't matter what caliber you choose, effectiveness is a dependant on where the shooter places the bullets.

I keep hearing people say this, but I have yet to see it. If you compare the SIG P series guns side by side next to a 1911 (and most other pistols), you will find the bore axis to be virtually the same. My SIG's hit where I point, just like my 1911's (arched MSH with a short trigger).

The trigger issue is just a matter of practice. After 30+ years of pretty much dedicated use, I switched from 1911's to P series SIG's. I suppose if all your used to is a SA gun, the trigger might be hard to deal with at first, but if your a DA revolver shooter (or auto shooter too for that matter), its no big deal at all. Either way, just a little serious dedicated DA practice, and you wont know you never liked DA triggers. If anything, my single shot DA groups with my SIG's are usually tighter than my SA groups from the same gun, or any of my 1911's for that matter.
