I am about to purchase an RZ .45 Heritage, Dan Wesson. Is there anything that you guys recommend for upgrades? maybe magazines etc. Also, how would you experts recommend breaking in this pistol?

Break in ought to be uneventful, but make sure you use a good lubricant. Oil, not grease. Avoid CLP or any other all-in-one type products at first as well. It may very well just be a fluke, but it seems that of the few DW pistols that have had galling issues, they were lubed with CLP. Also, I would probably start with ball ammo before running JHPs through it. It probably won't matter one way or the other, but I usually run ball first through a new pistol to establish reliability, and then test out JHPs to find what functions best. That being said, I've not had a problem with any ammo, be it ball or JHP, that I have tried in my CBOB.

Get some ammo and a good oil and have fun!

They come tight from the factory.
Hand cycle it about 200 times, like I did with my CBOB
before firing it.

No but I own a CBOB which is the same guns in terms of the questions you are asking.

They do come tight. Not les baer get out the tools tight but tight... I always break down a new gun. Check it out. Lube it up and hand cycle it. Then get it to the range.

I would let the gun run dirty. Run something in the range of 300 rounds then clean it. should be good to go.

I am saving for a Valor.

That's good precautionary advice. I didn't need the hand cycling, but it sure can't hurt. Just don't let the slide slam home. I don't mean to insult your intelligence if you already know that, it's just that I have no way of knowing how much experience you have with 1911s ;)

I just got the RZ-10 which is essentially the same, except for the obvious. My suggestion is your instruction manual first because this gun is TIGHT. If you're intending to use this for carry my suggestions (since I myself am doing this) is to get a good holster, new sights (I'm having http://www.speedsights.com/ look into fitting their sights to my gun), get new grips if that pleases you, these Horned Lizards look terrific http://www.davidsonknives.com/grips/hornedl_lizard.htm and Kimson makes some nice looking grips for a good price http://www.handicraft-vn.com/shop/pistol-grip-natural-1911a1-grips-compact-full-size-c-101_102.html
If you want anything else to make it look pretty, SVI makes terrific hammers, you can get a "Melt" bushing from Brownell's http://www.brownells.com/.aspx/pid=6116/Product/1911_AUTO__MELT__BUSHING.

The list goes on and on, it all depends on what you need and also what you like.

New RZ

I just run my new CBOB real wet and shoot the bejeezuz out of it. 2500 rds and counting. No problemos! Got a Valor on lay-a-way and will do the same with that pistol.
