Have some questions for you guys that are "in the know". Just picked up a Sig P230 SL West German manufacture serial number range of S0300xx. Just wondering what the main difference between a P230 and P230 SL aren and how an older W.German P230 fairs against a newer P232 quality, value etc.

"The main differences are;

* Addition of a firing pin block in the P232
* Slide serrations evolved, there are three styles, call them "Many", "Fewer" and "Perpendicular"
* Sights, go from two dot to three dot
* Standard grip panels changed but are interchangable.
* The P230 came in multiple calibers, .380, .32 and 9X18 Ultra."

Answer compliments of usp9 from an earlier thread in 2010. I don't have a 230 to compare my 232SL to. From all my reading, the only differences are those listed above. I hope you enjoy you're 230 as much as I love my 232.

Just wondering what the main difference between a P230 and P230 SL are...

The SL suffix means the slide and frame are made of stainless steel. The normal P230 has a carbon steel slide and a lightweight alloy frame. The weight difference between the two models is about 5 ounces.

I suggest you keep the rails well lubed. Also lube the takedown lever from inside the frame. Be careful to hold the slide release when cleaning as it has a tendency to pop off.

Beautiful, well made quality pistol, enjoy the P230.

Thanks guys. Have had many guns over many years but this is my first Sig. Picked her up for $320 two mags and three boxes of ball ammo, cant wait to fire it.
