Anyone own a Sig P230 .32ACP?

I have a friend who owns one and would like to put wood grips on it to dress it up a little. The problem, she tells me, is that the newer P232 has no safety lever on the left side of the frame where the P230 does have this lever. She says that the safety lever is right behind the decocking lever. Thus, the 232 grips (which are plentiful), won't work on the P230. I don't know Sigs. I have held a .380ACP in the gunstore and it seemed nice, pointed nicely, but I don't even think I've even ever seen a P230, .32ACP.
Any Sig experts want to help me out? I figured it would be easy. I looked up Eagle and one other manufacturer, but the P230's that they showed didn't have a safety lever. I thought it was odd that hers does and the photos didn't.:confused: However, she insist's that it's there.

yes, they exist

I had one once. They are made in germany and never made it to export very much, so i heard.
Its the exact same size as the .380 version sold here.
Nice shooter. Typical Sig quality. No complaints.
Since a Kel tec 32ACP is not available in Maryland, that was the 32 i had for awhile.
But as soon as i get outta here (less than a year!), the mini pistol of choice for me will be the kel tec.
Please, no bashing: I just want a 7 ounce 32, OK.

What about grips?

I thought that Hogue would make some nice wood grips for sure! None are listed for the safety equipped P230 though. This is a "lawyer gun".

Actually this run of P230's was made for the Japanese Police. It is true that no one makes a grip for them but there is hope. I have used a Dremel to cut out enough wood to fit on my 230 so that it works. I also removed the lanyard loop which is easy to do after you remove the grips. I have also taken Hogue P230 grips and Dremel'd them down to fit. It can be done.

IIRC, the 32acp SiG 230s with the safety were an overrun for one of the Asian (Japan?) Police Departments. About a year or so ago they were all over the place and being sold under some of the most outrageous statements ever heard.

Since it was never a full production line handgun, finding parts and aftermarket grips will be difficult. The best chance I can think of is to contact a company like Nils directly and see what they may be able to do for you.

Her gun is most likely a P230JP, a contract overrun for the Japanese Police. They differ from the regular 230/232 by being chambered in .32ACP, having a manual safety, and sporting a lanyard loop at the bottom of the left grip panel. It's highly unlikely that you'll find aftermarket grips for it, because the P230JP is not that common, and it was the only 230/232 variant made with an external safety.
 
OK. Late last night I saw the pistol. It does indeed have the lanyard "thing" but it's still in the box and wasn't on when she purchased the gun. (NIB) I can see the slot at the botton of the left grip where the attachment is supposed to go, but I looked at the attachment and there are no marks on it so I don't believe it was ever installed. This is a nicely made pistol. Does the "regular" P230/P232 series have any safety at all and are they DA/SA? My friend's pistol is DA/SA.
Pretty nice, all in all. Even WITH the black grips. Sigs are nice. Made me wish
it was mine!

These are all KH dated. Comes with the old style all metal mags, (which are regular 380 sized by the way). Nice pistols. Very collectable.

The spare magazine is still in the plastic bag and doesn't have any marks on the follower. I doubt this has ever been fired by the original owner.

Confusing. The forward lever is a decocker, so the Japanese contracted p230's in 32ACP have both a decocker and safety, separate levers. Why? Bet that made for some confusing moments in handling.

Our model P230 32 B pistols are about 150 apart in serial numbers. Mine was test fired by a different guy. If he shot freehand he's a darn good shot... two at the point of the triangle and the third 1" at 12:00.

Mine came with three mags total and I agree, they look to be brand new. I've fired the gun but with other mags I'd already used.

Not really. One only need move the safety to the up (fire) position and pull the trigger. Pretty simple and the same as most other DA/SA guns. If the gun is cocked then one uses the decocker to safely lower the hammer. Only then can the safety be used.
