Please tell me about the Sig P232.

How does it shot?

What is the difference (Pro's or Con's) between the all Stainless Steel version and the alloy version?

Have they had any problems?

How do they carry?

What the price of ammo compared to 9mm?

Really like this gun and I am trying to decide between it or a Ruger SP101?

I had a J frame Air Weight and it stung the heck out of my had, Does the alloy version do the same and would I be better off with the all Stainless version?????

Very nicely.

The alloy is lighter (though recoil will feel snappier), the steel is probably more durable (though in .380, both should last a very long time).

They can be finnicky with HPs. mine feeds Hydrashoks with100% reliability, but won't feed Silvertips at all.

very nicely. Even the "heavy" all steel one is pleasant.

.380 is more expensive, but no prohibitively so.

I think the alloy would be fine, but if it's a concern, get the steel one. It's by no means too heavy.

Not really

antsi I have specific questions that request information about the two DIFFERENT models and HOW THEY SHOOT, CARRY AND PERFORM.

PLEASE READ THE THREADS CAREFULLY BEFORE POSTING YOUR NEGATIVE COMMENTS.

My only complaint..

...is the mag release. It's on the bottom of the grip and requires your off hand to release positively. I have the stainless with Hogue grips and night sights that were new for 2007. Only have 100 rds. through it so far and not a problem. Surprisingly accurate at 7 yds. Great balance with German precision. The front night sight could be a little larger, to balance the sight picture with the rear. Around here the ammo is a tad high relative to 9 para or .38 special.

Unless I'm missing something, I see nothing wrong with Antsi's comment. Antsi was simply informing you there was another thread that is also ongoing that you may also find helpful information in.

I agree. There are lots of thoughts in the other thread regarding the Stainless model.

Ghostrider, maybe you are the one who should read carefully. I wasn't trying to be negative at all. In fact, in the other thread, I specifically addressed some of the very questions you asked in your post - including my experience of the differences between the aluminum and steel framed versions and what I consider to be the P232s excellent carry characteristics. Both of these are specific questions that you asked in your post.

Most humble apologies for offending you by trying to provide information in response to your question.

Time of the year

antsi, my mistake yes I took it the wrong way. Every now and then I run into some a**h*les because I have a question concerning a product and they seem to spend their entire life on here and have seen every question that has been asked. No hard feelings and thanks

Tydephan,

I usually don't go for gun bling, but man that SS with the Nills looked so sharp I had to get me some.

For anyone else interested - lots of suppliers seem to be backordered on Nills for the 232. However, SIG-Sauer (used to be SIGArms) has some Nills-made grips for the 232 in stock. They are just like Tydephan's above except for having the "Sig-Sauer" logo carved into the checkered area.

The Nills have a nice palm-filling swell that helps me because I have somewhat large-ish hands. At the same time, the rear contour is nicely rounded off - which helps prevent the grip from jutting when CCWing (either jutting out and printing or jutting in and jabbing me).

I also tried some Marschal grips. They are slimmer - which might help some for carry - but also makes for not quite as nice a shooting grip for my hands.

You nailed it with these comments. I was tickled with the Nill grips because of the aesthetics. I didn't realize how well they would improve the ergonomics of the grip for my hand.

At some point, I am going to purchase the aluminum blued version and put a set of nills on that too, just to have the pair.

Great guns, but..

...

Keep a current round count in between cleanings, as some of us with the later P232 SL's have had feed problems, consistent with round counts of just above 200 rounds. Seems the blow-back action deposits enough powder residue within the mags interior walls (upper) and the feed ramp, to cause the first round, thru 3rd round, consistent jams per mag and each load thereafter.

I also found that mine is far more forgiving of jams using FMJ for SD/HD, along with, from many reads about penetration values of the 380, which IMHO, left JHP's in question, especially winter time, and heavy clothing.

Keep her clean at or before, 230 rounds (has been my experience with mine) and she'll sing ya a beautiful, uninterrupted, song, all the time.

Enjoy

Lonestar,

I think there is some sort of feng shui, zen, or other planetary balance that occurs in your life when you have both an EMP and a 232.

At least...that's been my experience.

:D

i had a 232sl that was a beautiful gun that worked 100%, but i sold it to finance another gun....

i dont have the money too allow me to keep a gun of that size and caliber when i can get others of the same size but with more power.....

i wish i still had my 232sl, it was a jewel of a gun, but i have to be practicle in what i buy....

I have a steel p232. I have no experience with alloy frames.

My thoughts on the gun:
--Good looking pistol
--Looks great with Nil Grips. Gotta get me some.
--Nice fit and finish
--Very Reliable
--Better than average accuracy, but not a tack driver
--Snappy recoil because of blow back design. Don't buy it if you think recoil is proportional to pistol size, or are looking for a soft shooter.
--Easy disassembly
--A nuisance to clean because of small size and slide catch lever
--Gives me web bite. Replacing stock grips with Hogue wrap-arounds offered no improvement to me.
--Euro-style mag release doesn't bother me.
--Very slim. My easiest to conceal gun.
--.380 costs more than 9mm ammo. Go figure.
--DA/SA format. I don't care for it. That is strictly personal preference; it works very well and I'm sure it's great for those that like or don't mind the format.
--Expensive magazines.
--I don't find the steel frame heavy to carry, but then I'm usually lugging a 1911.

That is all.

The Sig p232 is the most unreliable gun I have ever owned. There is a problem in the breech face, and double feeds are a constant problems
