Called the local gunsmith to see what can be done to lighten up the trigger pull on my p239, he said that he could get a 22lbs and a 18lbs spring but didn't know how heavy the original spring was. So does anyone here know? Also he said the Kit were around $16 but it would $20 extra to install. How hard is it to install the kit and does anyone know of any resources that might help me do it myself? I have done a semi-detail disassembly of my Sig before though it was partly on accident, but I got it back together the way it came apart without much of a problem, so I think that I could probably do it myself.

Any input would be appreciated.

just keep shooting it for now ... i have 2 of them...

and even tho they were fine from the factory they have both gotten smoother with use ...
having any work done should be a last resort...
give it a couple of thousand rounds before working on it...

I guess your having some real problems with your post, but I'll try to respond to what I think your saying.

There's really nothing wrong with the pistol, I would just like to reduce the trigger pull weight by about 20-25%.

as i say ...keep shooting it ...

the thing is after 2-3k rnds the pistol smooths out so much its like a $$$$$ trigger job... don't worry about the 'weight' it will work itself in...

I agree with HD that you should leave it alone until you have at least 1000-2000 rounds through it. Don't be afraid to dry fire it either as that will help smooth out the trigger.

Just to be sure I understand what your gunsmith said - he suggested replacing the recoil spring to lighten the trigger pull? If that's so, then you need to find a different gunsmith. :)

No no no, there is a spring that runs down the backside of the inside of the grip. I don't exactly remember how it all works, I'd have to take the gun apart and play with it some more, but there is a mainspring that I assume if you replace it with a lighter spring you reduce the weight of the trigger pull by so many pounds.

In the link it is part number 34

Gotcha! I was confused as to which spring he was going to replace.

What is your current trigger pull? My P239 has a very nice 3 lb. SA pull and around 10-12 lb DA. The DA pull is just off the scale of my pull gauge, so I don't know what it is exactly. Personally, I wouldn't want to change either one of those pulls.

I looked at the mainspring and unless you have the right tools to deal with roll pins, the $20 would be well spent if you do decide to have the spring changed. OTOH, you said you have done some smithing on it in the past, so you might have a go at it yourself.

Try dry firing it a lot and then see how it feels.

Thanks Mal H

I hold off putting in the new spring and play with it for a little while. I still think it would be sweet to reduce that DA pull down to about 8lbs, but what would that drop the SA pull to, 1/2 lbs?:what: That sounds like a AD waiting to happen.
