I have a SIG P6 and need to replace the grips. What should I be looking for? My P6 is a range gun and the first thing I'd grab if someone is trying to kick down my door.

I Believe JTQ is correct, the grips are the same as the P225. I love the P6 myself, and would love a set of the G10 grips, but have a hard time justifying grips that cost 1/3 the price of the gun. Another option is Pachmayer makes a wrap around model fitting the 225/P6, I think the model number is 3113, costing $30-40.

The P6 is the same gun as the P225. It wears the same grips. Other than markings, I believe the only difference is the hammer.
My wife's P225 has a really nice set of wood grips from Ken Nill. Only issue with them is they fit really tight and are sometimes difficult to remove.

Not sure why you need to replace them, but IMO the Sig P225/P6 factory grips have about the best feel of any factory grip. I wouldn't be messing with perfection.

+1 on Hogue....

I agree Hogue grips are a good bet. ;)
The P6 is the SIG P225 version of the law enforcement 9x19mm. It was used in West Germany mostly.
The P225 pistol is a great single stack carry or defense gun. It's not a regular SIG model anymore but there are many used/LE trade ins still out there.

I ended up getting factory replacements

from Top Gun Supply. I really like the look of Houge G10 grips for the 225/P6 but couldn't justify the additional expense given that the factory grips fit my hands very well. I will be spending the savings on more 9mm to feed it.

Last week, I discovered the left grip was cracked near the slide release. I had removed it previously to clean and must have not reinstalled it correctly (then again its from 1977 so its a 37-year old polymer grip panel).

If I replaced the factory grips on my P6, I'd go with wood ones. Wood on a Sig just looks so classy.

I have these on my P6 and they work great and fit my hand really well. Grip forces you to index on the gun in a very consistent manner which I like. I would caution you if you have smaller hands or intend to carry gun because these grips are thicker than most but you did indicate its likely to be a range gun.

David my P6 is also my go to gun for things going bump in the night and the exact reasons are it is the single most accurate SIG (which is saying something because my P226's are scary accurate), I can grab it and not have to worry about hand placement and with trigger work performed on it very easy to shoot quickly and easily from a loaded chamber and de-cocked. Like I said in my previous post these grips may or may not be for you but they do represent a real choice. On a separate topic all my other sigs (~6) wear Hogue grips but I could find something for this gun that I liked better. You may want to investigate new set of factory P225 grips as the grips on my p6 were serviceable but not what I consider "grippy". The beauty of this gun, like pistols from all major manufacturers is you have many choices. If it helps you for sizing....I use XL to L gloves. I can squeeze into Large MechanixWear gloves but not move fingers very well but XL's are a good fit.
