Hey friends and neighbors,
My current inventory in semiautos:
.45 XDs
.45 FNP45
.45 1911
Obviously I have an affection for .45 acp as it is currently my only semiauto caliber. But all the ammo shortages and whatnot have made me wonder if I wouldn't be well off to have a little diversity in my inventory, namely the 9mm Luger.
Why the need? Well, I don't need it, but I do enjoy shooting. So when one cartridge is hard to find, I like to have another one to shoot.
I'm the type that likes to save, and just get the one that I want. I don't like to settle. I've had my eye on the Sig X-Five All Around, but the real killer is the price. It looks like I won't walk out of that purchase for under $1400, and the All Around is the base model. Nowhere to go but up, and I'm not really interested in the SAO counterparts. I like my 1911 for that.
I struggle with the price when I really don't need the gun. I have no doubt that I'd like it, and if I had the money, I'd not worry so much, but I'll need to save awhile for this one, as my bargain with myself is no new money being spent on guns until my student loan is paid for. Trading is ok, but I have no guns I want to trade away at the current time. I'm not in a hurry, I'm just weighing my options.
So, to any X-Five owners out there, are they worth the price? Do you notice that much of a difference in the accuracy, balance, ergonomics, reliability, durability, and overall shootability to warrant the price tag? I'm considering the 5.25" XDm, and a CZ SS 75B as well, both of which I can get a hold of for around $800 OTD. (Way more appealing price) I do prefer an all stainless gun for range fun. It may also serve some light, open carry duty and HD roles. I'm also wondering how it compares with the more stripped down 226 models like the Elites, or even the Equinox or Tac Opps. Not jabbing at those models as I think they are fine weapons as well. Or maybe I should just look into getting a 1911 in 9mm sinc eI enjoy and am familiar with that platform. Perhaps a bobtail or commander size.
Feel free to chime in with any alternative steel guns you have experience with. And please no "Get a GLOCK and be done with it." comments, "Get a revolver." comments, since I have 5 revolvers already, or "Get a .40 S&W" comments, since I had one and got rid of it. Oh yeah, I do not compete (well, I compete with myself), so that isn't a factor. I also prefer to buy new.
By the way, I have handled the CZ SS 75B, and was quite impressed with the trigger.
Thanks for the input all.
