I was on the verge of buying the Sig Sauer Mosquito .22LR but the vendor told me that I can only use high velocity 22 cartridge the first 1000 round or so otherwise it would jam with regular 22 cartridge. After 1000 round, it is OK to use the regular ones.

Any thoughts on the subject?

I own 2 SIG pistols, and have nothing but good things to say about SIG. That said, I have never heard anything remotely good about the SIG Mosquito. I wish I had - I wanted one... I just wasn't willing to risk it.

Mine didn't work at all

until I figured out that it was just really particular with ammo. It will only shoot CCI Mini -Mag reliably. No big deal. Fun gun to plink with

I had a Mosquito and it was dependable enough but not very accurate. I traded it for a Trailside and it is awesome.

The Mosquito and the Walther P22 (and it's S&W labeled twin) are THE two 22 autos i have heard the most complaints about on the various gunboards esp Rimfire Central.

looked at a mosquito once and cosigned it to the "Naw i'd rather not" list.

mind if i ask why you were on the verge of buying one? as in what particular features drew you to it??

I owned a Mosquito for a while before my friends girlfriend talked me into selling it to her. It was a fun little pistol never had any real issues with ammo but it did seem to get finicky when you put a lot of rounds through it and started getting powder build up. Having owned a Walther P22 in the past as well, I wouldn't say its any better or worse they both were fun to shoot and neat little guns. Having said that don't expect the quality you'd get from buying a Ruger MK 1, 2 or 3.

I have both the Mosquito and the P22. Both are fun pistols. Mine have been reliable with any ammo I've shot in them, (using the spring installed out of the box for both) and I mostly shoot Winchester Super X as I have a bunch on hand.

For some reason these two pistols seem to have gathered a love'm or hate'm following. Of the people I personally know that have them, its the love'm or at the very least, like'm crowd. None of us has had any issues so far other than the occasional .22 fail to fire, or maybe some minor feeding issues with a real dirty gun, same as with any other .22 that has been shot a lot. The complaints I've seen have been internet related, and most of those by people who dont even own one. There are plenty of threads on both, do a search and see what the actual owners say.

Sounds to me your vendor was making stuff up.:uhoh: I'd be suspicious of his knowledge. The Sig comes with two springs, one for regular ammo, one for hotter ammo. They do have a reputation for being ammo finicky, but who knows. Mine has been 100% with the heavy spring and mini mags, jammed a bit on remmington bulk-pak crap.

My only complaint is that the trigger could be a bit better.

I just got done shopping and buying a 22 auto.

I was told/read to say away from the sig and the p22. Recommended were the ruger metal frame and browning buckmark. BUT, if you really like the sig, it will probabably work but just have to deal with it and maybe have a few more mis-feeds. Not the end of the world.

The gun should break in either way, IMHO.
