Ok hi guys. Quick question here. The gun I have a question about is the Sig Sauer P220 Elite Stainless. There are 2 models on the website. Ones being the "full size" and the other being the "carry size". Looking at Sigs website they both have the same exact weight of 39.1 OZ. They both hold 8 rounds

What gives? Shouldnt the "Carry" weigh less?

It should.

But websites are known to have errors.

As are gun manufactures data they provide to the webmasters who put up the data.

With 27 different models of P-220's on the website?
My guess somebody in a low pay grade used copy & paste a lot!!

Everything is the same, frame, grip, mag loads but -

...

What gives? Shouldnt the "Carry" weigh less?

Actually, if the frames are the_same, both being stainless steel, then the weight difference is in the slides.

The full size P220's have a much thinner (width wise) slide vs the Carry's slide is much thicker (width wise) which makes up the difference in added weight and is why they both weigh the same or close to the same.

There is quite a difference, width-wise between them. Basically the full size P220 slide is long and thin whereas the P220 Carry's slide is shorter but stockier as in wider/thicker - heavier

It's the same with their standard 220's w/Aluminum frames - either model, full or Carry weigh 30.4 oz because of the difference in the slides.

The 220 carry slide is not thicker than the 220 full-size slide. The carry model is shortened with a different spring. It's a red painted spring.

It appears to be the same length as the P229, but it's thickness relationship is not like that of the P229/P226.

I have several P220s, P226s, and a P229. I only have full size P220s. I'd stick with the full size on the P220.

Ya I think im gona go with the full size. Would still like to know why they weigh the same though.

You wouldn't really know if that is true unless you had two of them to weigh.

I've found that kind of information on manufacturer's websites often less than reliable...at least that has been my experience while reading the findings of member's postings on Sigforum

Just compare them side by side

...

Way back when - I, too, was gonna get the P220/Carry - but when I went back to do the deal, they had a full size P220 laying right next to the Carry I wanted until I compared them, manually, side by side, weight, etc., and the thinness of the full size slide compared to the thicker/wider Carry slide was evident and why I went full size.

Do a sight on-seen comparison and you'll see.. simple

Having, a great fondness for the P229/40 and 9mm, as you can see

P229/40 - P220R/45 - P229R CT 9mm

The "comparisons" of the shorter, thicker slides, is very well known to me as was, is, the Carry's thicker/shorter slide as I saw side by side, top looking down, etc.

Adding, for me, the balance/feel between them also favored the full size P220

OMMV

Thanks for all the replies guys. I will try compare the two guns at my local gunshop if they have them. But im probably gona get the full size

The Carry does weigh less. I handled both at the SigSauer Academy. IMHO it is also pointless. Still heavy for real world carry. For accuracy, get Full Size.

Anybody know when (what year) SIG started making the Carry version of the Model 220 with a steel frame? I've always known the Carry frame to be made from alloy.

"The 220 carry slide is not thicker than the 220 full-size slide. "

Incorrect. The slide on the 220 Carry is thicker (wider) than that of the traditional 220. I have both and the Carry does not fit in the holsters for my traditional 220 because of the extra width in the slide. That said, I find the 220 Carry to be a fantastic pistol with excellent balance and accuracy.
