H&K P2000sk or Sig P239 for CCW ? *updated*

Im considering an H&K P2000sk .40s&w and a Sig P239 .40 as a conceal carry weapon. Can anyone comment on its usefullness as a ccw. how is its recoil, accuracy, ergos, concealiblity, comfort. etc

I've always thought H&K to be more of a status symbol than handgun that was head and shoulders above its lower priced competitors.

I looked at both the P2000 and the SIG239 - handled both - but in both cases really couldn't justify purchase of either (unless I got some sort of a windfall to play with) as a step-up from my G19. The Glock does all both do (except that its a 9) but is just as easy to conceal, is accurate as I am and is rock solid reliable.

on another forum, the vote is 7 out of 7 for the hkp2000sk, of this I am puzzled, I really like sigs and would have figured the p239 sas would be a serious contender for the hkp2000sk but its not? whats the deal? I really like HKs dont get me wrong. I own an HK45, the new ergo one and love it. but damn, so far the total favor goes to the hk p2000sk

My opinion is that H&K makes the best polymer handguns out there. I've owned and sold off a lot of guns including Glocks, XDs, Walther P99, Kahr, etc.

Then I bought a USP .40 Compact. The first time out with that gun I was triple tapping medium sized pumpkins at 25 yards I got done shooting and had the biggest smile on my face. I noticed every single time I went to the range my USPc got all the love and my other guns didn't satisfy me like the H&K did. Since then I've sold off my Glock 19 and my Glock 26. I just don't shoot any handgun as well as I do the H&K. IMHO the build quality, laser-like accuracy, ergos, etc are a whole level above that of a Glock or similar priced weapon.

I actually just ordered a P2000sk (9mm LEM) and it will be in tomorrow!

Obviously my vote goes to the H&K, but Sig still makes another top-notch weapon. I can't say anything bad about the P239. I don't think you can go wrong with either, but as far as concealed carry is concerned you have to think about what fits you best.

The P2000sk will give you 2 extra rounds, weighs less, and is shorter in both length and height. I believe the spec on H&Ks website is actually wrong for the weight. The P2000sk actually weighs 1.4lbs or 22oz with the magazine, which is about half a pound less than the Sig. Also, the H&K recoil buffer system works miracles. My USPc is such a soft and smooth shooting gun. I can shoot the otherwise "snappy" .40s&w round through my USPc all day long without any discomfort or pain whatsoever. H&K ergos are untouchable IMHO.

The Sig will be a little more slim in the grip since it has a single-stack magazine (although the waist line of both guns are very similar in width), and it does give you a full 3-finger grip whereas the P2000sk's grip might be a little cramped even w/ the pinky extension. Sigs are also known to be soft-shooting guns in .40s&w, but a lot of it probably comes from the fact that they weigh a lot more than most polymer autos do. Sigs also have a very crisp and clean breaking SA trigger on their DA/SA guns.

In the end, both would make a great carry piece with the right holster. I'd still go with the H&K though.

im sure i would be comfortable with .40cal as well as 9mm. if i was using the glazer +P 9mm rnd will i be better off getting the 9mm over the 49cal or not? is the 40 really much better than a 9mm if you only have time to get one round off or what?

If it's a DA/SA trigger you want then it should be the Gen 2 P239 SAS you should ask about.
As far as The P2000, see it it fits you first. Look at a USP compast too. (If you can find one.) And consider a V3 trigger as the manual safety on the V1 can be sensitive.
Each has its advantages The Sig should have a better trigger, will be thinner, no manual safety to worry about and comes with night sights.
The HK(s) will be slightly lighter and has higher capacity. Plus changing action types is easy on them too.

I recommend the HK P2000sk. A few years ago when I was looking for a new CCW, I looked at everything. The Sig was a contender but it never really felt right in my hand. On the other hand, the HK "sings" in my hand. It points very naturally, (a factor I think is important in a CCW), they are rock solid reliable, more accurate than you'd think.

I tried both triggers and chose the SA/DA as a safety margin. I'd also have been happy with the LEM. In the three years I've had the pistol, I've come to appreciate the HK trigger alot. The 11# first pull reduces the chance of a stress induced accident, whereas the DA trigger is fast with a short reset allowing for very fast follow up shots. I shoot the HK better than most any other pistol in my collection. It makes me smile.

IMHO there is no better CCW than the HK P2000sk. The Sig is no slouch...it just cant "sing".

FWIW, Clyde Armory is holding a sale on HKs and the P2000sk comes with three mags and night sights, (LEO set up).

Wow, you were right usp9!!!

I just picked up my new P2000sk not even 30 minutes ago from my FFL dealer down the road. To my sweet surprise there were 3 magazines and Meprolight night sights installed on the gun! I looked at the invoice that came with it..they charged me a total of $788.98. If I didn't use my credit card I would have saved another $22.98 by not having to pay the 3% "non cash" fee.

I could not be any happier right now I'm already impressed by this little booger and the LEM trigger is fantastic. It is my first time ever trying it out, but I love it. I wasn't sure if I was going to like the 7-8lb factory pull, but sure enough it's perfect. The sights don't even move the slightest bit when the hammer drops. MUCH better than the 11-12 lb DA pull on my USP .40 Compact. The reset isn't quite as short as the SA on my USPc, but it's still short enough to do some quick rapid firing. IMO it is the ideal trigger for concealed carry purposes, and I seriously cannot wait to shoot it with live ammo!!!

Go with the H&K, you will not be disappointed. I'm telling you..

A bit off topic, but does anyone have pictures of their hands handling the two? I hear the p2000sk's pinky falls off and you have to wrap it around whereas the p239 might not have that?

This is true. In my post above I mentioned it, giving the advantage here to the P239. The P2000sk is like the sub-compact Glock 26 in that your pinky doesn't have anywhere to go. I find that tucking my pinky in underneath the magazine base plate works perfectly. It is much better than just letting your pinky dangle because it gives you more control over the recoil of the gun.

I don't see why H&K ships these guns out with the extended magazines. They don't allow enough room for your pinky without it feeling cramped, and it makes it difficult to tuck your pinky underneath the grip. Most people end up having to buy the standard "flat" magazine floor plates, which you can get from H&K directly. Or you can usually find them in stock here under "Misc Gun Parts":

I just ordered two of them for mine. Having to buy these after you buy the gun is my only gripe with H&K! It's not the money so much as it is annoying.

Can't comment on the HK, but I do have a Sig 239 in 9mm. It has been a flawless performer through about 4000 rounds. I recently used it in a 2-day handgun course in which I fired about 400 rounds/day with no cleaning throughout the day. It ran perfectly even though I ran it hard. It has never failed to feed, eject, or fire any factory loading. It carries quite well for a gun with a full grip; slim, and comfortable. It is also very accurate and easy to fire.
I also carry a Glock 26 which is a great lower priced alternative. However, the 239 has a level of class and sophistication that cannot be matched by my Glocks.

I too tried the flat mag plates but went back to the finger rest plate. I found I prefered it after all. This is of course a purely personal choice, but I found it helps me hold a more secure two handed grip.

The Sig P239 is one of the most accurate carry size guns I've ever shot.
Get it & the Hogue finger groove grips.

I went with the Sig P239 after going to buy the P2000sk. When I held the P2000sk I though if felt great! that it would make a great conceal gun untill I inserted the stock magazine.


As you can see, the magazine has a lip or bill that sticks way out from the bottom front of the grip. with the size of my hands, which I believe to be average, I am only able to fit my middle and ring fingers on the grip with my pinky finger rather awkwardly going back and forth between trying to grip the lip and trying to curl underneath the bottom of the mag.

I found holding the p2000sk to be very uncomfortable and awkward simply and solely because of th damn enlongated lip coming off of the magazine. the Sig P239 fits perfectly and comfortly in my hand and inspite of its weight, feels very good and Im sure will make a great chl.

btw, im sure there are aftermarket mags that dont have the lip but screw aftermarket mags, if the stock hk mags dont work for me, then the gun doesnt work for me.

at the end of the day, I think the hkp2000sk is better suited for people with longer skinnier hands and fingers than I have. I find the p239's slightly longer and skinnier handle to be easier to grip as well as conceal than the shorter fatter double stack handle design on the p2000sk.

Maybe you missed my post where I said you can get the H&K factory flat magazine floor plates to replace your extended "lipped" floor plates. Many people, including me, find it more comfortable with the flat floor plate vs. the stupid extended one H&K ships their pistols with. They are only $6 a piece.

I went with the ccp package in 9mm.

The package cost $695.00 The P2000sk with 2 mags was $795.00.
savings and extra mags aside, the P239 just felt like an overall better conceal carry weapon.

I will get another HK to go with my HK45 but it wont be a P2000, Im thinking more along the lines of a P30 or a USPcompact 9mm.
