Sig Sauer P229 Platinum Elite in 9mm

I have plenty of experience with the regular P229... DA/SA model... not the elite. It is a wonderful firearm in virtually every respect. However, I would not recommend paying that much more for the bling bling version, which does little to improve the function of the weapon. A long beaver tail is not of much use on a 229 which already has a very high bore axis. The chance of getting slide bite is slim to none unless you have the hands of the Michelin man. The only other useful upgrade is the short reset trigger. Besides that, the rest is mostly cosmetic. Is that worth an extra ~$300? That's for you and your wallet to decide.

I have a P229 in .40 and it shoots very accurately. The extra heft of the gun tames the recoil nicely.

I would bet that 9mm would be even softer shooting. The only reason I went for the .40 is because that's the round that the P229 was built around. Yes, it's just a beefed up P228... But I had to be weird like that.

Edit: I also don't see the draw for the special versions that Sig offers. There are some models that come with the "SRT" short trigger but from what I hear, it isn't that great of an improvement unless you have small hands.

I guess if you want the longer beavertail though, get the fancy one.

Aluminum grips are $140 aftermarket. If they are still the style as shown in the pics on their website, and not the Hogues, then they are worth slightly more. Everything I have read has said aluminum grips of any kind vastly improve the feel and handling of these guns.

That combined with the SRT (and the beavertail if that is your thing), it seems like there is a lot of value in buying the Platinum Elite over the regular P229 Two-Tone, assuming you were going to get those upgrades anyway.

That's kinda my way of thinking too.

As I was saying the SRT / Beaver Tail / Adjustable Night Sights / Aluminum Grips are the reasons I'm looking at it.
