Sig Sauer P238 Advice?

Love it!

I've got a 238. I've probably had it for around a year now? I bought the 238 because I loved my Sig 239 in 9mm, and I needed a smaller carry gun.

The 238 replaced my stupid LCP. I carried that LCP, but dreaded the thought of actually having to shoot it. It hurt my hand because the recoil was so bad every time I shot it.

The 238 has been flawless. I've shot probably 500+ rounds through it, changing up what I've been shooting. I also have the original spring. I love the heavier feel (than the LCP) and the lower recoil. I can put 100 rounds through it and not have a sore hand. Plus, it's accurate for me.

So for a purse/carry gun? Love it.

Though mostly positive, I have received a number of "don't buy" type messages on this gun, but just about EVERY ONE involves issues that all my research indicates have been resolved. THANKS for your advice.

It is a great little .380 ACP. Felt recoil is very light compared to other .380's like the LCP and is very accurate.

IMO, she would be very comfortable shooting it, and when it comes to HER gun, let HER pick it. It helps out alot that the one she likes happens to be this one :)

Maybe let her shoot a few smaller guns and see what she likes. But to settle your fears, yes, the P238 had problems early on, but they have been fixed

I think the 238 is the perfect gun for a woman with one exception.
It is S/A only. Some may not feel comfortable with that.
But.......recoil is light (I was surprised), the slide is easy to rack, the slide locks back, it has real night sights, it looks good, and mine has been flawless.
Carry it ready to fire (safety on) in a holster that covers the safety, and you're good to go.

There is a thread on the 1911 forum, gun manufactured Feb. 15, 2011. It's on it way back to Sig for the second time. Just sayin'. ;)

I meant their problems as a whole. There are many individual pistols from other reputable manufacturers made recently that are having to go back to the shop for tune-ups. Sometimes a part just slips through QC, no matter the manufacturer.

I love my early production Sig P238. It is surprisingly comfortable to shoot and pretty accurate for such a small thing. I have shot many sub compacts like a bersa, walther ppk/s and CZ-83 and they were all less comfortable to shoot then the tiny Sig (the walther was down right the most painful gun I have ever shot).

The Sig is also leaps above the ruger LCP and Keltec. However it is probably on par with a Kahr p380 (kahr afterall does make the best CC pistols on the market in any size range).
