The Sig Sauer P250 .45 acp (9 rounds)

I recently took this Sig in trade plus cash for another pistol I was selling out of my collection. I have all the 1911's I want right now, so I decided to get this scaled down .45 and see how it fared at the range.

The upper is steel, while the plastic lower has an incorporated picatinny/weaver style rail. This version included the sig arms red laser that attaches easily and sturdily to the firearm. The lower is plastic and is textured like your average glock. There are no grips per se, just the textured lower. The pistol is nose heavy when empty, which improves somewhat when loaded with 9 rounds of .45 in its short double stack magazine. Still a little nose heavy by my standards, but not bad.

I was able to align the laser with the tritium 3 white dot system easily enough. Nice sights, easy to acquire quickly, even with my failing vision. This was my first time using a laser on a pistol and I am now a fan.

I ran 50 rounds of Winchester round nose and 20 rounds of hornady flying ashtrays through it in various combinations and speeds. The Sig 250 ate them all up and spit them 3 feet directly to the right of the ejection port. The primers were all struck purt close to dead center and there was no visible damage to the spent casings.

The laser stayed within 1 inch of the 3 dot system throughout testing and did not wander or turn itself off or any other kind of shenanigans.

Felt recoil was mild and the pistol was not any louder than any other .45 I shoot. Overall I was pleased with the ergonomics and location of the mag and slide release. Slide locked back on both magazines every time the firearm was empty.

I'd have to give this handy pistol 4 out of 5 dammits at this point in its testing phase.

I'll bet that it won't let you down in future testing either. The Gen 1s had their troubles, but the Gen 2s (like yours) are spot-on

Just make sure that your grip habits from the 1911 don't cause you to ride the slide release if you want the slide to lock back at the end of a magazine.

Yes, I'm aware that its a modular firearm. Breakdown is incredibly simple and reminds me of the breakdown system on my HK VP70z.

Dave, I had zero problems with adapting my grip. The ergonomics of the grip on the 250 make this an easy transition. My edc is a Para P14 1911, but I also make range time for the bizarre assortment of pistols in my collection, so adjusting my grip is par for the course.

Cool. I only raise it because I have heard people complaining about making the transition. Nothing impossible about it, just something that some people run into. Glad you're enjoying your new firearm!

Thanks Dave, I hadn't even thought of grip adjustment when I picked the P250 up. It fills the hand up nicely and I was surprised at the lack of muzzle flip. I suppose being a little nose heavy helps in that regard.

I really like my dad's P250C .45. It feels good in the hand, shoots good, fantastic trigger for a DAO auto (best I've ever felt). It DID have to go back to SIG for an extractor problem. Failed to extract numerous times once it passed the 800 round mark. Has had another 500 or so without issue, so we're back to trusting it. A lot of people give it crap for being DAO and inexpensive, but honestly, I love the thing. I've thought about one myself, just for fun.

I own two P250's (full size 45 and sub compact .40). The .45 is a wonderful pistol. Accurate, reliable and pretty easy to carry. I have put ~2500 rounds of mainly russian steel case .45 without a single hiccup.

The subcompact .40 is a more recent addition to my collection. It only has ~500 rounds down the pipe, but like it's full sized stablemate, it's flawless when it comes to reliability. I find it to be the perfect size to carry IWB in a Theis holster.

The P250 in my opinion is a great multi-caliber platform.

I really wish the P250 was getting more love in gun circles. I love mine. Runs like a top, and is stupid accurate. It was more accurate than my P226!

I had the pleasure of shooting one over the Christmas break. It was the P250 in 9 mm, owned by my dad. I can say it was a VERY NICE shooting pistol. I was able to put 15 rounds in a group no larger than 7 inches, rapid fire, at 15 yards. This was the first time I had ever shot it and it impressed me mightily. The trigger reminded me of a well tuned revolver, not a DAO automatic. I will buy one when the funding allows and it might just become my edc.

Did a ten shot test today, standing - steady slow firing using the laser and both hands at 25 yards.

Still happy, had a buddy try to buy it from me at the range!

Bottom of the 9 ring. It's not that great, that's a zerox copy of a target and somewhat oversized - not exactly a standard target for 25 yards. That's a five inch group.
