Background: About a year and a half ago gander outdoors had an absurd sale on scopes where i took one of my friends to check it out. The only thing really left when we arrived that was on sale was a sig bdx 4.5-14 so that's what he walked out with (180 out the door). He also recently purchased a ruger American go wild in 6.5 creed on my recommendation and was ecstatic with its 100 yard performance with the hornady eldm 140 grainers but we had never been able to take it much further. Just a month ago we expanded the berm and added an 8-12 steel plate to the side so we can utilize the entire field to range out.

What happened: I programmed the general data for the cartridge into his app and downloaded it to the scope. Dropped the box fps by 50 just for a little headroom and uncertainty for test barrel length and we went straight to 300. Lined up his first shot and THWACK, first shot hit no issues. We shot 5/5 each at 300 and said that's awesome but its only 300 lets see what happens further back. So we drove out to 5. We switched the reticle to glow in the app for the 500 holdover and i took the first shot. THWACK. first shot hit at 5 and we couldn't be happier. We went 9/10 shooting at 5 off of the hood of his truck. With that level of consistency we couldn't stop there so we drove it back to 7 and unfortunately didn't hit the first shot, although it landed about a foot in front with an easy holdover. We shot 6/10 total at 7 using a ruger American and no working knowledge of the drop on the ammo shooting off the hood of a truck. Color me impressed.

The scope +: the BDX system works. Of course it requires you to program it correctly and this is one anecdote but boy, it worked for us. The reticle can double for illumination there is a glowing dot for the zeroed crosshair position if activated.

The negative: the glass clarity was not very good overall. Of course it beats the bottom barrel scopes but for what it msrps for i would expect more. You are paying for the bdx system not the glass. If you are only hunting out to 200 or have a good working knowledge of adjustment i would opt for better glass. The parallax adjustment and magnification are a bit still along with the parallax hiding on the inside of the brightness knob.

The takeaway: My friend is not a consistent shooter, he wants to go out a couple times a year and then hunt. I would not expect him to know any real holds and he's one of the people that the back of the box is not going to tell him what to do. This scope gives him the ability to get the most out of his respectable marksmanship fundamentals within the limits of him and his cartridge (wont shoot at anything past 250 or 3). This was by far the easiest ranged shooting experience I've had using someone else's rifle and no mapped out data. If you have interest in one they are absolutely worth a try. This also only solidifies my position as a walking ruger American advertisement.
