I've never owned a polymer framed pistol and haven't wanted to until I looked into the SP2022. I like the DA/SA trigger standard on many SIGs, I like the absence of a dedicated safety and I like the decocker and external hammer, so a polymer framed pistol with all of those features is appealing. However, I'm surprised by the physical dimensions of the SP2022 compared to my P239. The SP is wider (1.4" vs. 1.2"), longer (7.4" vs. 6.6"), taller (5.7" vs. 5.1") and with a weight of 29.0oz compared to 29.5oz, it's not significantly lighter. I carry my P239 with a 10-round magazine inserted plus one in the chamber and two 8-round magazines for back up. I've had my CCH license for about six months now and I've found that I can carry my P239 comfortably all day long either IWB or OWB to the extent that I don't notice it. So other than costing about half as much as the P239 and having the option for a 15-round magazine, what advantage does the SP2022 offer over the P239, particularly in terms of practical use rather than range use? Am I missing something here?

I have a sp2022 in 40 I've carried it concealed a couple times but it isn't very comfortable.

Maybe you just prefer the smaller, slimmer, single stack P239 over the double stack SP2022. They really are designed for two different applications.

The pistol more similar to the SP2022 in the Sig line-up is the P229. These two are compact, duty size pistols.

Other than holding more rounds? None really. I'd stick with the 239 for carry. The 2022 is a good gun, but so is the 239 and you already know can carry it all day.

The slim design of the P239 is a nice package for carrying but I know a few guys that with a good holster carry the P2022 comfortably.

I carry an HK P30, which is about the same size as the P2022, in the appendix position and it conceals nicely.

Thanks guys for the feedback.

OK ... if I buy an SP2022, which is very likely, I'll use it for range work and keep it in the glove box of my car as a back up to my P239.

I carry the 239 and also like it. I've shot the 2022 (my neighbors new pistol) and was impressed with the oob trigger and performance. As said, they are not in the same class.

I'm a small light-weight old guy. The 239 works for me. The 2022 would carry for me in the winter months OWB. The 239 works year round iwb/owb for me.

What to carry??

IWB is my preference and my normal carry is a P239-40s&w, but sometimes a Kahr P40 or an HK USP 45 (full size). I'm not large, about 185-190, 5-11, but I wear my shirts out all the time.

I've got the P239 and P226 (slightly bigger than SP2022). The P239 works a lot better for IWB carry. If you're going to carry OWB you can probably get away with the SP2022, though. It's only real advantages over the P239 would have to be capacity and possibly a slightly faster reload due to the bigger magwell. The P239 shoots as well as any full sized duty handgun, so you're not compromising accuracy or controllability.
