I have a 94/22 and I would like to replace the factory rear sight (and possibly the front) with something else. I have my mind set on a Williams peep sight or a Marble's tang. However, I need some help in regards to the installation of these sights. I do not want to tap and drill the reciever. I also don't want to add holes, or do anything else that permanently scars the gun if I decide to remove the sight.

I would appreciate anybody's input on this matter. Do these sights (or any others that you recommend) require tapping and drilling? If not, what do I need to install them? Also, I would like to hear what anyone has to say in regards to their performance. I would really like to upgrade to rear sight of this rifle and am a big fan of peeps and tangs. I will be looking forward to reading your replies!

P.S. Can anybody recommend a decent front sight replacement? Preferrably one with inserts. And if possible, one that allows me to use the hood that came factory.

I put peeps on my Win. .30-30. The reciever was pre drilled and tapped so things went easy. I like peeps so things turned out just fine for me.

If you want to put a scope on it, the top of the receiver should have two parallel grooves on each side on the top. That's to mount a .22 scope on, although the stuff that mounts on the AR style rails won't fit.
If you just want to replace the front & rear sights, I won't be able to advise you.
My 9422 isn't drilled or tapped for scopes and I suspect none were at the factory; a gunsmith would have to do that.

No, the 94/22 is not drilled and tapped for a peep sight like its centerfire brethren. However, the Williams Foolproof for grooved receivers works just fine. It's a tad bit bulky but works perfectly. NECG also has a peep sight for grooved receivers.

CraigC,

That's what I was wondering-whether Williams made sights that would simply fit into the grooves on top of the receiver. On the "Brownells" website, is it the FP-71 model? Are those the ones that use the grooves?

To anyone else,

How about Marble's tang sights? Any knowledge about those being used on a 94/22? Like them better than the Williams peep (advantages/disadvantages)?

Here is my 9422 Magnum with the Williams Guide sight that fits on dovetailed receiver. Really like it, but it requires a taller front sight as well.

Here is a better picture, which also shows the higher front sight.

for a good front sight look at Skinner sights. it will run you about 20, including shipping for the front sight but its a very nice sight, i have two that i use with the williams rear site. and he also has a barrel mount peep, you dont get a long sight radius but... best of luck with the choices.

Take a look at the tang of your 9422. Unless a previous owner has drilled and tapped the tang, you will not be able to mount a Marbles (or any other) tang sight without having it drilled and tapped.

The Williams Fool-Proof works but I agree with the comment above that it is a little awkward, oversized and fragile (my words). It is the only sight I have actually broken off a rifle in more than 40 years of shooting, and I am careful with my gear.
