Howdy guys,

I have a a good buddy's DDM4 and he needs a 4x scope dialed in. My questions is this, where do I dial it in at? I will be building a load for this gun, which we will probably load 2000 rounds of, so it will be sighted in for that particular bullet. I know he is mainly going to use it for varminting (mainly gophers) and other smaller varmints. He will proabably never use it out past 100yds. I normally sight in higherpowered scopes at 100 yds, should I do the same for this one? I know you can sight in at whatever yardage you want, I was just checking to see if there was a "normal" sight in yardage for a 4x. Thanks!

100yds should be Ok. You can see the target well enough to get a group. If we are talking 223 rem. caliber, you might want to have the point of impact higher than the point of aim. If your friend sees a gophers or what ever at 150 yds, hes going to shoot at it i bet.

As Art said I sight in at one inch high @100 simply habit and it has always worked for me.

Best range to sight an AR in at is 50 yards. This gives you a Zero at 50, ~200 and makes it easy to figure holdover and under at 100 and 5 yards as well.

I agree with the previous posters - set 1" high at 100. This allows for the longer shots should your friend chose to take them. I have tried to set up ARs to shoot at 50 yards but even with a flat top, the scopes tend to sit too high and end up screwing up sighting at longer ranges (could be me, but that's been my experience). You may want to chat with your friend about the scope choice as well - there are many optics available with bullet drop compensation built in to the scope reticle - not sure if this would be a viable option, just a thought.

Blessings

55gr Trajectory

Don't know how accurate this is but it gets a lot of attention on other forums.

If he is planning for 100 yards, I'd sight in at 100 yards. Then figure out hold over for longer ranges.

If he is using different bullets then the trajectory will vary but it won't be completely different.

Thanks guys. I will play with it at 50 and 100yds. I suppose I should have stated it will be shooting 55g fmjs on top of Ramshot Tac. Not sure of charge yet, as I have not shot the workup loads yet. Thanks for all the input, and if you feel you have more, please feel free!
