Hi Iam new to this forum, I want to know how to sight in my new Rock River Arms NM A4 rifle. It has 1/4 clicks with NO numbers and it has a .030 hooded aperture rear sight. I want to use this for competition shoots like at Camp Perry. Thanks alot in advance

More info, opinions here ...

Most set them up to be a few minutes above the rear base at 100 ... that way you can still shoot short range matches w/o running out of downward adjustment. Then, the following will put you on paper (clicks are cumulative) but different loads will take a click more or less ....

100 - 200 +2 MOA
200 - 300 +3 MOA
300 - 600 +11.5 MOA

i zero my RRA NM AR15 service rifle at 100 (a half-click up from the mechanical bottom of the rear sight is zeroed at 100y)

then 200 yrds is 3 min up (12 clicks since i have 1/4moa clicks)
300 yrds is 6 min up
600 yrds is 15 min up (60 clicks)

(btw, these numbers differ a bit for different shooters because of using different loads and different sight pictures.
i use 69 SMK at 200/300 and 80 SMK at 600
also, i use a flat tire )

Lots of good info here guys! I've been wondering how to do this myself. I have to figure out 25m bzo on new M4.

What I am wondering is.....I just recently did an Appleseed shoot,of course my zero was not there, my fault, anyway, I couldn't see the distant (mini) targets thru the .030 rear hooded sight either. My eyeballs are old too,48. So, I just put in a BJones system and the rear aperture sight is now 042.

So....did I change the 1/4 moa adjustments by putting this larger aperture on the rear sight?

Thanks,
Rikman rifleman in training ;-)

PS What size bulls eye is "best or proper"?

At a recent Appleseed they had us practicing on a 1 inch square at 25 yds. ( 4 moa target I think the instructor said...4 one quarter inch grid/blocks.)

I'm not sure where you set the rear sight for 100 yds. Do you mean 1/2 moa up from the bottom? So, "2 clicks up"?

no, half a click. i.e. the lowest it will go that settles on a detent. like, i can twist the knob another half click, but it won't stay there.

i'm not saying this is the right or best place for it. just where i have it
