My eye sight isn't the greatest, it's okay but I always have trouble sighting in a good group at 100 yards with a 3-9x40 scope. Where I hunt, it'd be rare to get a shot off at 75 yards. This year I decided to sight my scope in at 50 yards for dead center (no high or low) because I can see much better. Using a Model 70 30-06 w/ Redfield 3-9x40 and 165 Core-Lokts, would there be any need for me to hold over/aim high or low on a deer if the chance presented itself from 50 out to 100 yards? I'm not looking for sub-MOA, yet minute of deer vital accuracy.

with a .30-06 sighted in a 50 yds....you should have no problem going out to 100 without changing your point of aim....the drop should only be fractions of an inch.

Actually, if you sight a 30-06 in at 50 yards the bullet will be rising when it gets to 100 yards because the line of sight is above the bore and the bullet will be rising to get to the line of sight. I've never tried a 50 yard sight-in but I would guess the bullet would be about 2 to 3 inches high at 100 yards. Since 50 yards is half way to 100 yards, with the reticle 2.5 inches above the bore the bullet should rise an additional 2.5 inches by the time it gets to 100 yards. Someone else may have a better answer? Shooter

Unless your scope is mounted real high, a fifty-yard zero will put you about 2 inches high at 100 yards and about dead on at 200.

Good luck.
