Sighting in my new scope onto a AR-15

I bought a new scope for my AR-15, it's a Nikon Pro-Staff. Anyway, I am new to sighting in any scope. The scope will be mounted on the carry handle (fixed) of my AR-15. My question is when bore sighting will it make a difference as to where I sight in the bore as to the scope vs a flat top AR-15?
Should I sight it in at 25 yards or 50 yards? Does it matter...

I don't think you'll see much real world difference, what counts is when you actually shoot the gun, where does it hit. I seen guns that where bore sighted be no where close to the target when fired. Normally it will get you close , but not always.

If you want to see the supposed difference go to this JBM site and plug in the numbers as far as sight height, it will tell you the differences closely.

I would suggest you bore sight it at least 100 yards away.
That will get you on paper.

For actual zero distance?

Assuming the carry handle mount puts the scope center line 3.0" above the bore.
With 55 grain FMJ-BT, Bullet impact on target would be:
Muzzle = 3.0" low.
25 yards = 1.7" low
50 yards = .63" low.
100 yards = 3/4" high.
200 yards = Zero.
300 yards = 7" low.
350 yards = 14" low.
400 yards = 23" low.

I usually start at 50 yards and then move the target out to 100 for the zero. It saves ammo.

I didn't intend to suggest you bore sight it at 100 yards and start shooting at that distance.

Move the target in closer to start fine-tuning the scope adjustments after bore sighting at longer range..
But be aware with the scope that high above the bore line, it still needs to shoot low at 25 & 50 yards to get a zero at 100 or 200.

And I would suggest the 200 yard zero at least.
No sense wasting the flat trajectory of the .223 with a 100 yard zero when you can zero at 200 and hit anything you shoot at out to 400 with just a tad of holdover past 250 or so.
