Took the M1 and ran about 80 rounds through it. I got the windage dead on at 60 yards, (that is the longest range I could get today) but the elevation is about 5-6" low even with the rear sight bottomed out. Do I have to reduce the height of the front blade or is there something else I should be doing? Any help appreciated.
Thanks in advance.

I think you need to raise the rear sight up about 10 clicks to zero in at 100 yards. So you might try raising it 6 or 8 clicks at 60 yards. Raising the rear sight forces you to lift the front up and will raise your POI. (I think I understood your question.)

Yep, rear sight needs to come up, I think the M1 garand is 1 click =1 inch at 100 yards (could be wrong bout that). 6 inches at 60 yards is roughly 10 - 12 inches at 100 yards so you wanna go up somewhere around 10 - 12 clicks. Admittedly math is not my strength. try it at 8 like the boy said and come up more if you have too :)

A general rule...move the rear sight the way you want to bullet to go.
In other words.....if she is hitting low raise the rear sight.
Rule #2...move the front sight the OPPOSITE way you want the bullet to go.

As an M1 Garand owner myself, 10-14 clicks up from bottom is the general starting position for sighting in the rifle. Adjust from there.

Also, don't forget to loosen the elevations sight screw and re-adjust the knob so that it will be correct for your zero. There are graduated markings on the rear sight so that you can dial in at any range.
