Sightmark vs EOTech

Just curious, looking for my father for his new AR. The Sightmark's reflex sights are significantly cheaper than the EOTechs's. Just wondering what yall have to say about either of the two, or any other good to great reflex sight system.

You have to ask yourself this question?

If you were one of the Navy SEALS dropping into Bin Ladans compound on a rope at night.
Would you rather have an EOtech, or a cheap Chinese Sightmark on your rifle?

With optics, you pretty much get what you pay for.

I would look at EOtech, Aimpoint, and a short list of others.

There are no $79.99 dollar Chinese sights worth fooling around with when you factor in the cost of sighting in ammo & the rifle it is going on.

I'm with you on you get what you pay for RC.
I'm thinking the OP might not want to shell out, oh, $500. So how about a Bushnell 730001 Red Dot? Compact, ready to mount and about $200. I've thought about one for my Bush M4 but my gun purchase budget keeps me from ordering one :banghead: I'm kinda drawn to something lightweight and won't take up the whole rail with it's footprint

I have a Sightmark reflex on my Buckmark pistol, and it is a very good match for that gun and, IMO, an excellent value. That said, the Eotech product is definitely higher quality and serves a different purpose.

I have a Sightmark on a gun right now. Cheap was the selling point. If it craps out I'll replace it with something better. I do not intend to get into serious conflict with this range toy, so I am unconcerned if it craps out. As budget allows, the cheap stuff gets replaced with better stuff eventually.

It works well enough. Not the best, but not crap either. If price is no issue, then of those two, buy the EOtech.

I Don't Know Whether Or Not They Are Still Available-

but the original Bushnell HOLO-SIGHT is exactly like the EOTech model;
it just does not have the steel case (guard, if you will) around it. I had
heard that EOTech was going too quit making them for Bushnell; cuz
the EOTech's were getting out sold, for a far less expensive price? Now,
whether or not this is true; I can't confirm, but I do have the Bushnell
HOLO-SIGHT mounted on my Colt CAR-15 and it has performed very
well~!

I have a friend with the Bushnell product on a rifle and it is nice. Were I to replace my Sightmark with something pricier, the Bushnell would definitely be in the running.

i have the eotech 512.A65 on my turkey shotgun,a rem 12ga 3 inch mag. and i have fired over 90 rounds of different 3 inch mags to find the right brand of shells and shot size with different choke tubes to use and it has not moved or failed in any way. and it still has the original AA batteries in it. eastbank.

EOTechs are decent if you like the reticle, and they're worlds away more reliable than the cheaper junk like Sightmark. However, the battery life sucks. If you go over to more professionally-oriented forums, you'll see a lot of people are dumping EOTechs due to either poor battery life or battery-related problems like reticle flickering, the reticle shorting out, or issues with the battery compartment itself. I haven't read much in the way of loss of zero, so it sounds like the power situation is the major issue with EOTech. If you don't want to have to change batteries every month and deal with the power issues, look into an Aimpoint.
Also, since L3 took over ownership, I've heard a lot of people griping about their customer service.

i,ll admit i don,t leave my eotech on 24-7, but i hunt turkey,s and it is on the whole time while i,m humting. i use plain AA batteries that cost 10.00 for sixteen batteries at walmart. i think i have about 100-150 hours on this set of AA,s, trying the eotech at trap,five stand and useing it to find the right load and choke for my gun,plus the turkey hunting and the batteries are still ok. at that cost it works out to .62 cents per battery. i don,t even use the best batteries advailable,but the cheapies. i might be concerned if it was on a fighting or self defence gun. i wanted a sight that would take the recoil and work,and that it does. eastbank.

You can't compare the two.

Eotech, Aimpoint, Mepro, Trijicon are peers.

Sightmark...isn't.

If you want to be cheap, get a Primary Arms Micro Dot or M3 and have a decent optic for training or recreational use. Otherwise get a real sight, like EOTech or Aimpoint. Between those two you will find a million threads discussing the pros and cons of each if you do a search.

You will hear a lot about EOTech failures but my experience with them has been great and I don't know anyone personally that has had issues with the EOTech.

I used to be an EOTech fan - I really like the reticle. Unfortunately mine took a dump and has to be sent back for repair. Aimpoints only for me from now on.

I'm a fan of both Aimpoint, and Eotech. I do not own either one now, but I have used both. I've jumped out of planes with both numerous times, been in combat with both. They both held up well. I can't speak about battery life, because we changed batteries more than what was needed, and generally shut them off when we inside a FOB. I do greatly prefer the Eotech reticle, but that's just me. I don't recall that anyone had problems with either of them - but that doesn't mean that problems didn't exist that I don't know about.

I don't think you can really go wrong with either - and from what I can gather, you will be ok with the Sightmark too - as long as it is limited to a range item and not for "serious" use.
