What is the best sight to put on a remington r-15 for day and night hunting. Thanks for help and advice.

You are talking about the most modular rifle in history.

Its really based on how much money you can commit to it.

There really are a thousand options and combinations.

Just to offer something specific I would say:

On a Picatinny rail, mount a Eotech Holographic sight (this would be a dream on my deer gun) Read up on it if you don't know.

Then if the night hunting is important to you, get a side mount for your picatinny rail and put a light there that you can activate with your trigger hand.

Or if you want to be hard core....

Starlight Scope mounted on your rifle, with a mounting system that let you put an Eotech right on top.

Or just cover all your bases and do this....

You'd have to find someone that could pick it up first...

You say day/night hunting. Hunting what? How? At what range? Those all play a part in picking the right optic. Are you using a light at night? Will you use/need night vision? Are you shooting longer ranges during the day? You might be best served with a pair of choices on quick detach mounts, a magnified optic for longer range work during the day and an illuminated dot sight of some variety for use at night. With a good QD mount, you can swap between them in a few seconds as needed and the rifle will still shoot to point of aim.
