I have a Springfield GI. It has the GI sights on it which appears to be molded into the slide on the front. Can someone tell me if the Springfield GI can have sights installed and what kind? Where to go to get it done? Thank you

Any good gunsmith should be able to cut a dovetail and install a front sight such as Novak. Or you can send your slide to Novaks, Heinie, etc. and they will install sights for you.

The front sight is actually staked in place. An extension of the bottom of the sight - called a tenon - protrudes through a hole in the slide and is peened over from the inside to hold it in place. You can buy staked aftermarket sights, but larger (heavier) sights tend to work themselves loose more easily. If installing a staked night sight, the insert can be damaged during installation due to the hammering required.
