Tallpine, I believe this is legit. I have a relative in Montana who knows one of the guys behind this. Anyway, it's your choice, you gotta follow your conscience.

Legit it may well be, but legit isn't the issue. Stupid is the issue. Why on earth--no matter how strongly you feel--would you ever want to sign your name to a threat of assault or worse?

Hmm. I like the part on the web site where it says "We need your complete address to validate the petition."

Leatherneck is right -- this isn't about conscience, it's about how stupid you are.

If I read the body of the petition correctly, there's no threat, express or implied:

"To President Bush, members of Congress and the media: I stand with my proud fellow gun owners in demanding anti-gun politicians and the media immediately cease and desist their disgusting practice of blaming law-abiding gun owners for the acts of deranged criminals. We are gun owners, we’re patriots, and we vote. Keep your hands off our guns!"

Not that I think anyone's going to do anything more than sneer at it, but it seems pretty harmless.

If you have molon labe in your signature you'd better remove it, that is an express threat of violence should some "law enforcer" come and demand you surrender your guns.

Charlton Heston had better stop saying "...From my Cold, Dead Hands." because that implies you'll have to come and kill me for my guns. Again, and express threat of violence should it come to confiscation.

No wonder why we're incrementally losing our rights with such limp wristed whimps like those of you who are too afraid of the government to make a firm, formidable statement.

What do you think checks and balances are all about? This country was founded by people who said "Live free or Die" and "...give me Liberty or give me Death!!!"

I like the petition. However it should have been proof read.

What I don't like is putting my full address on it. I have signed numerous on line petitons that required my email address. But this is the first that stated my full address was required.
You can tac paranoid on my name if you wish, but I'll pass on this one.

You can call me a wimp if you want to, but I'm not willing to give up that much information online, because Lord only knows who might wind up reading those entries. Anyway, an online petition isn't going to go very far because it is lacking on major thing, an actual signature. Being electronic, anyone could just sign up for as many people as they wanted to, and the people who would be receiving it would know that. Okay I'm done sniveling, bye.


Edit: Sorry for the rant. I think the petition itself is written just fine. I sign online petitions all the time because all I'm giving them is my name and email address. If it were like that I would sign it. I just don't like giving that much information to someone that I can't see face to face.
