I thought an 1/8" tack at 12 & 6 was adequate as far as Tig welding.

if your going to make it so it can be undone later,drill your pin hole and insert the in.find somebody with a wire feed and tack the pin.countersink a bit first.tack it,grind off the excess

if you are going to make it permanant,install flash hider on barrell.mark dead center of bottom in middle of threaded part.if you happen to have access to a bridgeport or a drill press,get a 1/4 endmill and drill the hole through.reinstall hider on barrel,and shoot a quick mig well tack into the hole,then cool it.works fine,less heat damage than using a torch.

Maybe it's just me, but the fact that this whole thread only exists over 1.5" of metal just highlights how goofy some firearms laws are.
