Simmons AETEC 2.8-10x44 scope reviews

Gentlemen,

I am in the final stages of buying a scope. I am not really looking to spend a fortune on a scope (I am a little low on money due to buying coyote hunting equip, just got into it from deer hunting). I am strongly leaning toward a simmons AETEC 2.8-10x44. I have heard many good things about these scopes for the price and also some not so good things. My friend recently just bought one (because he liked his friend's) and is waiting on it to arrive. I will give it a try and he will tell me what he thinks of it from his shooting experiences.

I was wanting to know i any of you guys have had any experience or heard anything of these scopes. All responses are greatly appreciated.

My experience has been when you buy cheap, and are not happy with the performance, then you have to sell it at even a cheaper price. Then you go and buy something else. You lose out twice, and could have spent the same amount of money on a better scope. Consider looking at a Bushnell 3200 or a Nikon Buckmaster? I have seen and bought very good deals right here on gun forum classified ads. I paid $120. for a like new Buckmaster 3-9x40, and $150 for a like new Burris Short Mag 2-7x32. Both were purchased early spring. I'd look around first before settling on the Simmons.
There were some pretty nice Weaver classics for sale for a little over $100. not too long ago. Also decent scopes.

My AETEC was OK, but I was not happy with it in the end for a number of reasons and I sold it.

1. Adjustments were not repeatable - 3 down/3 over and then reversing to 3 up/3back would not put the POI in the same place as it started.
2. Color aberrations were bad - orange dots as bullseye inside of black concentric circles proved to be an interesting target as the orange dot would 'float' off center.
3. It actually lost zero a couple of times between range trips. This is the only scope that I've ever had do that.

I have to agree with bearmgc. You can have the best shooting rifle in the world. If the sights or scope are poor might as well have a shotgun.
My brother used to use a Simmons ATEC and said after a few hours of prarie dog hunting he couldnt see to well due to the eye strain. He has changed to a better scope now.
