I picked up a used rem. 700 in .270 today but it has no scope and the rear iron sight has been removed. I am going to put a leupold scope on it but it may be a little while until I get the funds up. The only scope I have is a simmons deerfield that I got mounted on a marlin 60 at a pawn shopp a few years ago. Would the simmons work for the time being just so I could shoot it?

Hi,
The answer depends on what you are going to shoot at. If you are going in the woods and have used the scope before then it might work fine for now. I do not know what you are hunting and any info. on your current scope to give you an informed answer.

However I have used scopes in my closet until I could afford a better scope in the past and I am sure I will do it again.

I might recomend you also look at the Burris scopes before you get your Leupold. I have recently passed on a Leupold in favor of the Burris on my Remington 700 in .270 cal. I like the scope and it was alot less expensive.

If you post the particulars of your simmons scope and what you are hunting this might give everyone the info. to better answer your origional question.

I like Leupold very much and I have one on my lever gun, but I picked up the Burris after several posts on THR and friends recomended them. Both are good and will serve you well.

Hope this helps,

Hunting season is just about over so it wont go into the woods until next year. I will just shoot it at the range until then to get farmiliar with it.
