Thanks . I just like to make stuff . If I’m making a floor full of chips at the mill I’m a happy guy . I enjoy it as you do . Please post a picture when your done . People argue a lot about what’s the best way to mount red dots but it’s that persons gun . However they mount it , that’s the best way for them and it’s their gun . I think people miss that one a lot . Get it mounted , whatever way and go shoot and enjoy your range time .Here's compliment's on your ingenuity and metal working skills. I thought about something along the same lines for my SR1911 but, unlike your friend, came to the conclusion the a dovetail mounted red dot beat this type of mount all to pieces IMO and they are no drill. However your buddy is happy plus you got to dream up and build a gadget that works and that's great. I'm a gadget dreamer upper and builder also. I enjoy it a great deal.
There are a few factory gadgets that do what yours does although they are kind of clunky compared to your version. I have one on another 1911 and it works well enough but I don't care for it. I think I have dreamed up a way to use a dovetail mount in conjunction with the slide racker that is also dovetail mounted. A little milling and a little drrilling and tapping and it should work.

Looks goodHere is the picture you requested. Two actually. I finally got the sight mount whittled out and it works great. I used an old NcStar mount for a Ruger MK II/III/IV that mounts just in front of the ejector port. I would have liked the mount to be at least 1/8 thinner but if I milled it down I would have lost the positioning pins so I settled for leaving it's original thickness. The slide racker also serves as the dovetail piece for the sight base. Truthfully I don't notice the extra height when behind the gun. I've changed several things to make the little gun more likeable. It got a full length stainless guide rod and spring which seems to make it cycle just a bit smoother than with the stock set-up, different grip safety, and a straight main spring housing. I also changed the mainspring to a 16# one which gave me a 3pound, 10 ounce trigger pull, down from about 8 pounds. I added the muzzle brake which is very effective at stopping muzzle flip and the gun has very little recoil at all now. I also added a 3 extra round mag base and made a loading helper button shown below the gun. Next step is to see if a regular 1911 extended mag release will work with the GSG mag. Another thing that I like is the fact that it cycles standard velocity ammo dependably.
