When I first got into guns years back, the first thing that caught my eye was the bells and whistles 1911's. Ambi safety, front slide serrations, three hole triggers on everything, checkering on every last inch.

I still have a few guns like that, but it amazes me how my tastes have changed over the years. I went to my local gun shop to look around today and this Dan Wesson A2 Commander caught my eye. So simple in presentation. A nice classic, clean look. No big billboard or rollmarks. Smooth everything. I had to have it.

Beyond the simplicity is a build quality that is incomprehensible to me for $1,100. Everything fit beautifully together. Everything refined nicely. Tight tolerances yet smooth to hand cycle. I have a few DW's of old but hadn't kept up with them for the last 8-9 years and knew nothing about this particular model. It's a hit in my book!

Can't wait to take this one out to the range tomorrow. Now if only the Gold Cup National Match I've been waiting on that I ordered a while back would arrive......

Novak sights? Check. Extended thumb safety? Check. Beavertail grip safety? Check. Arched mainspring housing? Personal preference, I like them both. The only addition I would like, and it is merely aesthetic, so I probably wouldn't ever do it, is a skeletonized hammer. But, like you said, it has everything it needs, and nothing it doesn't. If it has the same quality as other Dan Wesson's, it is well worth the price you paid, without the bling. Enjoy it!

Let's just say I have a long history with that long solid trigger....EDIT, I can't read and see you said hammer and not trigger. Yes, I like those too!

Although I have nothing against Skeletons!

My MKIV Series 70. Every time I started to add something I stopped. It's a Colt .45 man, live with it. That's me. Your is beautiful!. IMG_1854.JPG

Many of the same things that attracted me to this Colt Government (the rollmarks have never really bothered me and it does have a neat "100 years of Service" rollmark on the other side of the slide)!

Nice pistol I love my Dan's
Does that A2 have a blued or duty finish? If it's the duty finish be careful of the lub's and solvents you use

I agree... a rollmark is one thing, a billboard is quite another. And those doggone front slide serrations.

At the top of my ToDo list is a Government 1911... I haven't decided exactly which one, yet, but it sure could look something like that DW!

I’m not a huge fan of .45 in a commander sized gun, but it is beautiful and classy. That gun in 9mm or especially 10mm would be hard to pass up. It’s a true beauty, and guaranteed to be a good shooter.

Maybe this one might change your mind: Colt Combat Commander from Colt's Custom Shop with all the accuracy of a Gold Cup and all the reliability of a Government Model.

How about a Colt Commander in .38 Super with a 9mm. conversion assembly? Compact lightweight, and with plenty of horsepower on tap!
