I saw a guy at the range shooting a some type of heavy duty steel target. Rather than using one of those expensive stands ,he hung the target from a stand used for bird feeders. Good idea, now where do I get some nice steel targets? I know to go to Home depot for the bird feeder stands. It`s a lot more fun shooting the metal targets .

I use old real estate signs... They hold up well, are light, and easy to put In the ground. It also allows the steel to hang even and deflect down the bullet...

I use steel fenceposts, much more durable than bird feeders

steel stands

I can make pretty much anything I want from steel but decided to try a couple 1/2" thick ( I'll have to verify they aren't 3/8" )Shepherd's hooks from home depot.

I just got these and have yet to try them out. 48" high

There was a member on this board who was selling AR500 plate cut to order. Those 8" rounds are from him. ( mcosman IIRC )

For clarification, those targets are set up for pics and not to shoot at. In that location, the backstop is 650 yds behind them)

I have made swing sets and spring mounted steel. MGM has these cool spring loaded resetting Colt Speed plates but they are probably $125 ea or better now. Everybody liked shooting these. We stopped allowing the use of pistol cal carbines when we noticed the 2" pipe supports cratering. I have since redesigned the vertical supports and am changing them to 3/8" X 2" rectangular stock with the front edge having a considerable bevel.

MErl, Good idea with the fenceposts.

PVC on bottom, 1"x1" wood with cardboard thumb tacked to it. Eventually the wood is shot by new shooters, but these last me several range trips and can be taken down.
