WOW, I posted last night only to find it gone this morning. If the powers that be (Sam) are gonna pick and choose, I'll just watch.
Didn't call anybody any names, just proved how the "goal posts" get moved. And then posted about you using what you want and me using what I want . And then asking David E "WHAT, is THE weapon we should all HAVE to be using to be correct.

Do you guys shoot more poorly when you go to town?

No - it's just that any urban encounter would be much more likely to be with the proverbial "two legged critter who might shoot back" variety.

So therefore in my case, as a more casual and less accomplished SA owner, I believe I am better served going with a DA revolver.

Your assertion that the person who scores the first hit is going to win the gun fight is bull droppings. Plain and simple. The person who makes his opponent unable to fight back first wins the fight.

To me the guy who's made the first hit has just scored a major head start in doing this.

There once was a time when the FBI issued a Uniform Crime Reporting Index.

It had information in it on many things no longer reported.

One thing was the average total number of shots fired in a "Civilian" gun fight and average total number in a "Police" Gun Fight and the average number of hits per shot in each.

These numbers stopped showing up in the 1980's and I have not looked for them in later issues.

Not wanting to be accused of making up or misremembering numbers I am not going to quote any.

Some folks may want to look up those numbers from those times when violent crime was so high.

Might be an eye opener.

When I first got out of college and out on my own the only gun I had and could afford was a Colt Frontier Scout that my grandpa had given me. It had the .22lr and .22 mag cylinders. I kept it loaded with the .22 mag cylinder and ready to go in my apartment for a couple of years. Never felt under armed.

Moved up to a 70 series LWT Commander .45 and retired the Frontier Scout when I got married.

Your argument is for higher capacity, quicker reloads. You are either planning on engaging multiple assailants, shooting the same person a lot more than 2-3 times or missing a bunch.
I think there is a very good argument for higher capacity.

The need to engage two or more assailants, vs. one, is not at all unlikely, in the rare event that deadly force is necessary in the first place. I don't "plan" on it, but I think it imprudent to not consider that scenario.

Yes, I do consider the likely need to shoot an assailant more than once, should shooting be necessary in the first place.

And stressed defenders shooting in a rush will probably end up "missing a bunch".

How prepared is someone with five shots? Well, if one is forced to shoot two assailants, if it requires two shots to stop each of them and the defender can do that, if the defender hits thirty percent of the time, and if the defender is able to fire no more than is necessary with those assumptions, one has a 97% chance of not succeeding.

Study this.

So it is the basic premise of the other side that capacity and reload speed are more important than proficiency? I don't normally carry a reload anyway so it's really only about capacity. My usual carry piece is a 3" 7-shot .45ACP. Is that really such a huge advantage? Is there really much difference between flicking off the safety and thumbing back a hammer for the first shot? Or are we going to say that the 1911 is also not a "modern defensive pistol"?

If five or six shots ain't enough, then aren't you also saying that NO revolver is enough? How many is "enough"?

As an individual, do you think that I (not speaking for anyone else) am better prepared with a high capacity automatic even though +90% of my shooting is done with single action revolvers (with the understanding that 'what' I shoot is not going to change)?

You boys are trying to get unfair jump on your opponents. Don't play unfair and get one of them ball and cap Ruger revolvers. One goes real good with name Dragoon 45.
