I know I'll probably get people saying the idea is dumb or to just leave it be, but here is the theory...

First off, why... Number one reason.... single action is my choice... that's all there is to it.... Dad is getting a Glock for his room, but the single action will be staying with me for a back up :)

I am just wondering if it is possible to take the front sight down (I am talking non adjustable here) and put an XS big dot type sight on there... maybe widening the rear notch to complete the new sight picture.... obviously all work to be done by pro gunsmiths etc.

I saw an article once on a Robar custom single action that had a shortened barrel and rib on the top of the barrel for something like this, but is it possible with a standard barrel and notch sight?

It would be a Ruger Vaquero... I believe the Robar was a USFA, but I haven't got over a grand to spend on one being young...

go to gunblast.com and check out the bowen classic arms bearcat. you may want a rear sight like that.

You can have a ramp installed. Then fit up a blade of your choice in the dovetail. That will also give you windage adjustment. Check with XS Systems.

So if I were to find myself in possession of a Ruger Blackhawk, ;) then the adjustable rear plus the ramp would be adventitious to a "night sight" mod?

Paint the front sight a bright color, most SA are natural pointers and at SD range inside your home you should be OK with practice to do well even without sights. I can get off several shots reasonably fast with any of mine with two hands with decent accuracy out to 15yds. I am not confident after 60+ yrs of shooting to depend on a SA as a SD carry weapon, but maybe I am a little behind everyone.
