I saw an interesting gun at thye local shop today. It's a single action chambered for the .45LC and it's barrel was marked as a Colt barrel. The rest of the gun was a Uberti or some other Italian clone. Is this common?

Yes, does it just say ".45 Colt" which is just the caliber and cartridge or does it say "Colt's Pt.F.A. Mfg Co. Hartford, Ct. USA? If the latter, it is a real Colt barrel on an Italian frame. Some clones use Colt 1st and 2nd generation threads.

I have a Uberti .45 LC I rebuilt that is now a .32-20.
(UberColt, or ColtBert?)

A first or second generation Colt barrel has the exact same threads.
A first or second generation Colt cylinder will drop right in.

Third gen. Colt SA parts will not fit a Uberti frame.

Of course, the problem is that a good Colt barrel & cylinder is worth way more then a whole Uberto SA to begin with!

Da.......

Is it too much to inquire what (or which) Single Action you have in mind?

For example, they don't all have the same barrel thread... :uhoh:

It was a blank thread, now it appears to have moved to this thread.

Old fuff & I aren't completely crazy yet, are we?
Or just talking to ourselves?

Da...

Well O.K.

Now you see it, then you don't...

Anyway, at one time (and maybe now) EMF was selling 7 1/2"-.44 Special Colt barrels, which they pointed out would fit their current Italian import Single Action. While fitting a Colt barrel to a revolver made by someone else isn't usually illegal, it can become so quickly if a seller represents the gun to be a genuine Colt.

In another case of obvious fraud that I'm aware of an individual screwed a Remington barrel (with the correct markings) into an Italian New Army reproduction and sold it to a less-then-knowledgeable buyer as the real thing. Such folks should be given an opportunity to spend some time in the Graybar Hotel. :fire:

Sorry for the late reply guys. I've been away from the computer for a few hours. The barrel did say Colt Manufacturing Co. hartford Connecticut, or something along those lines. Yes, it was a .45 Colt gun, but the barrel was specifically marked as a Colt mnfg barrel. I was just wondering if this is a strange combination.

The gun shop said exactly what Old Fluff just stated, that they thought the seller was trying to pull a fast one by passing it off as a real Colt. They were asking $185 for the gun since it was a hodge podge of parts. The action was actually pretty smooth for a Uberti (or similar).
