I have a really nice 5 1/2" stainless Single Six 22lr/22wmr and am thinking about buying a new Buckmark Contour Lite in 5 1/2".

Can I expect the Buckmark to be appreciably more accurate? Or no better? Both would wear high end red dots. If the Buckmark wouldn't be a lot more accurate, I'll probably pass on it.

gbran,

By putting the red dots on your .22's, your gonna loose accuracy. The size of the dot (3 MOA, 6 MOA) is going to stop you from driving tacks at longer ranges. I've had a 6 1/2 " Single Six and have a Varmit model Buckmark, with a 10" barrel and a Bushnell 2 x 6 scope. I use it for squirrel hunting and with Federal Match ammo it will hold 1/2 - 3/4" groups at 50/75 yards.

If your going to try brenchrest target shooting, opt for a longer barrel than 5 1/2". If you want to keep the short barrel and red dot, stick with the ruger and use the money for a .17 HMR Ruger or Taurus Tracker. The Tracker with a Leuplod 2.5 x 8 scope (my set up) is an absolute scream to hunt and shoot with!!!!!!:D Just smoked a Fox squirrel at 65 yards a few weeks back.

Try it out you'll love it!

Hope this helps............Mike

To answer your question, I seriously doubt that the Buckmark will be appreciably more accurate. Accurate, yes. Appreciably so, probably not. Of course, I am speaking purely from a mechanical standpoint. You never actually mentioned how accurately you can shoot your single six, so while they may share similar accuracy potentials from the mechanical standpoint, it is entirely possible that you might shoot one appreciably better than the other. I shoot my MkII better than my dad can, but he shoots his single six better than I can, and thats purely a matter of personal preference and ergonomics (real or percieved).

Thanks Mike, Tim

With the Single Six, I shoot 30gr Aguila's. They are hyper fast and have a very flat trajectory. With the 3 moa red dot, I can generally count on 2" at 25yds and much worse at 50 yds. I do have an extra Burris 2x28 that I haven't tried, but might before I decide to buy the Buckmark. The red isn't that great, but better than iron sights for my poor eyes.

I also have this 2x red dot on it now, but have not yet tried it.

If you intend to shoot competetive targets like Bullseye the SA Single Six is too much of a handicap in the timed and rapid fire to be considered while the semi auto Buckmark is quite good for that kind of shooting.

If you find an ammo the gun like to shoot either should have similar accuracy but that depends upon the individual pistol as to its potential. Buckmarks are very accurate and its been my experience that they have much better triggers than a Ruger Single Six which aids in that accuracy.

gbran: where do you put the wheels?? Sorry. Couldn't resist. To me, a pistol it handy, a rifle is to reach out and touch. Having said that: these old eyes darned sure ain't what they used to be!! LOL A chacun son gout, n'est pas?

Stay safe.

In my experience the single sixes are very well built, heavy real deal guns. The Buckmarks are cool for having a man sized grip, 1911 type mag release, and excellent grip angle. I sold my Buckmark to purchase a Beretta 87 Target which at least to me is the greatest .22LR semiauto pistol ever made. I like heavy guns with comfortable easy to access controls. The Single sixes do seem better built however like Timbokhan said, it's all in how you shoot them. Although I couldn't seem to hit squat with Timbo's Single six I can regularly impress myself shooting an old High Standard Longhorn convertible with a 10" barrel!

I have a single six and I love it but for targets I prefer my Colt Woodsman or Challenger over the Single Six

Owned both guns. Love both. Except for the most extreme survival SHTF situations, I prefer the Buck Mark. Much more fun for a day at the range.
RE: accuracy, they are both quite accurate, but I'd give the edge to the Buck Mark. You can probably find a load for each gun that will give target gun accuracy.

Oh I nearly forgot to mention that the absolute tack drivinest load for the Buckmark is the Aguila Sniper Subsonic rounds! As an added plus they really bang metal targets at range!
