Single Six

I just picked up a used '76 Stainless SS for under $300. It didn't come with the box or book, but was in excellent condition. I wouldn't pay much over $300 for one. Just make sure the cylinders match, the last 3 numbers of gun's serial will be etched into the cylinders.

I agree with bumnote, I wouldn't pay more than $300. NIB examples are selling for around $325-375 in my area. But then again, so are the used ones. I guess Single Sixes are in very high demand in my area.

The only SS I've seen in my area for under $300 was a rusty blued model for $275 :barf: . I have also seen a similar heavily pitted example, without the Magnum cylinder, for $425 :scrutiny:.

Thanks for the quick replies, and the help.

I appreciate the tip on the serial numbers too. I'll offer 200 going up to 250 cash on the spot. I'll go up to 300 if they'll let me use lay-away.

This will be my first revolver. I'll be sure to post some pics if I get it.

Before you go to 300, note that there are new ones for less than $400. No reason to pay an extra $100 if you find a sweet used model, but it really should be better than 95% condition.

By the way, how do your Single Six's shoot? I use mine to punish soda cans and wood stumps, but it's not nearly as accurate as my bigger caliber Rugers. The magnum cylinder seems to improve accuracy, although it is a LOT louder.

Well, no single six in my future. They would not budge on price. They are asking 350.00, I offered 250 out the door. I didn't bring up lay-away at all.

Good call. Got a stainless Single Six for $289, including both cylinders. You should be able to do better on a blued specimen.

I wouldn't sell my stainless one for $400...I like it that much. Of course, I live in
Maryland, so add about $200 to the price in this wretched state.

Local gunshop has them for something crazy like $430 for a NIB blued. I refuse to pay that much. I HAVE seen them from time to time used for $300. They don't seem to move quick, but I also don't see them coming up very often. I'm sort of waiting for a stainless version and $300 really isn't a price that makes me jump up and down (I think it's probably fair, but I'd like a good deal).

Actually, I'd really like to see it under the Christmas tree any which way you cut it :)

I was patient and finally found a blue one with both cylinders for $200 about 2 years ago. A little blueing wear - but that just meansn less for me to wear off.
