The Queen of Thunder asked how many presses we all had and I got to thinking about it (I have one). I really like my Redding Boss press, but if that rinky-dink spent primer catcher ever caught more than three of them in a row, I would go buy a lotto ticket and run for office. I currently use a trash can underneath the press and it gets most of them.

If I was going to upgrade to a 2 press operation and use one for a decapping press only, what would you recommend? I want one that keeps most of them corralled and me from making uncharitable remarks after I hear:

"PING, Boink, $#@%!"

Thanks

I have the classic turret and the primer through the ram works pretty darn well. The LEE classic cast works the same way. If I were in the market for a single stage I would get one.

I have a Redding press that has a long transperent tube that catches the spent primers. It works great.
I have loaded for 30 years but just started using this press and I really like it and was especially impressed with this primer thing. Prior to this I used an RCBS Rockchucker with a trash can underneath it (for like 30 years).

I didn't post in the other thread but I have three presses on my bench: 2 Dillon 550s and this Redding single stage. I still own the RCBS press, I have a Lyman turret press, a Mec 650 shotgun press, a Lee handpress............................... Don't know how many. If I gave a number I would have forgotten something.

The Rockchucker tray works for me.

Every now and then if I let it get too full one or two will bounce out, but that's my fault for not emptying.

I have an RCBS Reloader Special with the ubiquitous RCBS primer catcher tray and a Redding Big Boss with the spent primer catcher cup on the side of the ram. Both tend to spray spent primers all around.

My Hornady L-N-L progressive has an excellent spent primer catching system and if the single stage Hornady is similar, it would be excellent as well.

The Redding Big Boss II has a through the ram primer catcher system and I have been considering getting one to replace the RCBS press.

The Forster Coax press had the best primer catcher out there ... straight down a steel tube into a small plastic jar connected to the end of it ... all dust and crude goes down the tube also...

My single stage is an inexpensive Lee Breech Lock Challenger.
I get 98% of the dead primers in the tube where they belong.
(pretty rare when one escapes.)

I'm sure the RCBS, Forster, Redding, Lyman etc, presses do well, but Holy Crap, the price tag is wayyy more than what I spent & I'm satisfied.

Those last 2 words mean the most to me "I'm satisfied"

Just my 2¢ worth YMMV

Redding offers an upgrade for the BOSS press, it has the hollow ram set up .

I like the idea because it keeps all the primer cruddys in check !

Here`s a simple /cheap idea I found to do to my LYMAN O CrusherII
& it works !

A lot of good suggestions and experience here, thanks. As you can imagine, the original plan is for this to be just a decapping press, so I would be leaning towards something on the inexpensive side.

GP100 man: I had a look at Redding's site and it looks like they have an upgrade for the Big Boss, but not for my regular Boss. Sounds like Christmas bonuses at work. The big boss gets the bonus, but the little boss doesn't.

Is that a straw stuck in the slot on the ram? Very ingenious.
