I have a Sistema 1911A1 in very good shape. However, the firing pin tends to get stuck forward on a dry fire, when I'm cycling after shooting or a bad mag causes a misfeed. When this happens the pistol jams, and sometimes the FP retaining plate falls out.
I have cleaned, checked, lubed and even replaced the firing pin and the firing pin spring. I have cleaned, checked and lubed the FP channel and the hole in the breech-face.
Any other thoughts or suggestions?

Something is making it jam forward. Perhaps you could coat the FP with something, felt pen ink maybe, then carefully reassemble it and dry fire it until it sticks. Then take it out and look with a 10X loupe, that might illuminate the problem. As for the FP stop coming out I would replace it with an oversize stop. That might even solve the other problem, no? I mean, maybe it's the FP stop falling a fraction of an inch that's making the pin stay forward? When you pull the FP stop does the pin still stay stuck forward? Sometimes the firing pin hole in the breechface is dinged closed by primer pucker, could that be what it is?
Does the pin slide freely under it's own weight without a spring through to protrude into the breech when you tip it muzzle down? Wish I had the gun here to look at, I like puzzles. :)
