Maybe I'm just being paranoid, but if I cycle the slide on my glock a certain way, the fring pin will protrude from the breech face. Slowly cycling the slide forward, the safety engages and pushes it back? Is this normal?

If a loaded magazine was instered with the firing pin protruding, and the slide racked, would it not fire out of battery reagrdless of the safety?

I also noticed on the firing pin, after wiping some grease off, it looks like it is chipped on the side, but the function check goes through fine without problems.

Firstly, you should not have any grease on the firing pin or in its channel, AT ALL!

Other than that, the pin should move freely when the slide is back, and when it goes forward, the firing pin is pulled into place by the back of the trigger bar, and can't reach through the breach face. YOur gun is fine once you clean out the firing pin channel.

Sorry, in a hurry writing this. There was some debris on the firing ping that I wiped off. I also took a pipe cleaner to the firing pin channel. No lubrication was appplied to any of these parts.

I bought the Glock used, but it has functioned flawlessly. If I rack the slide forward, and hit the back of the slide with my palm, and then open the pistol, the friing pin is protruding form the breech face. Then if I slowly cycle the slide, the safety engages it back. Not sure, just noticed it after I detailed stripped it.

With the trigger forward in the ready to fire position the firing pin safety and the trigger bar which is pulling the firing pin back (essentially half cocking it) should be preventing the pin from protruding like that. I can't really think of what could be doing what you describe, but it doesn't sound quite right.

You may also want to contact Glock to see if your particular arm is eligible for the free firing pin upgrade, or if it already has had the procedure done.

I sent my Glock 20 back to Georgia to have mine done, and Glock was fanatastic about turnaround and service. They even threw in a new slide spring setup.

FYI, on a Glock, if the slide is locked open after the gun has been dry fired, (i.e. the trigger is now in the rearward position) the firing pin will protrude from the hole in the breechface. That is considered normal.

However, if the trigger is in the forward position and the slide is locked open, the firing pin should not protrude from the hole in the breechface, as the firing pin safety is working as designed.

If your trigger is in the forward position, and you're seeing the firing pin protude from the breechface when you lock the slide open, something is wrong!

Field strip the gun, detail strip the slide and examine the parts for wear, reassemble and perform a function check.
